The underlined above seems to only work in one direction though, because Mayweather supporters will sound the trumpets with respect to his fight (beating) with Oscar, even if many others discount it like myself based primarily on your own assessment, which is correctly stated above.

The notion that you need to take a fighter from unknown into prominence in order to be a great trainer is just ******. How many fighters stick with one guy that long? And, with all due respect, Oscar was more singer than he was boxer when Floyd Sr joined the fray. While he was still a mega star, he had looked less than stellar in the ring and had been usurped by the likes of Felix Trinidad by the time Floyd Sr rolled around. It's no coincidence that his return to the grand stage came when Floyd Sr instructed him prior to round 10 of his bout against Fernando Vargas to run the combinations up the middle and finish with the hook.
