no the HW was always and always should be the top, most prestigious division in boxing. If there is a SHW division then that would become the top division.
It makes comparisons different too. in 20 years lets say some guy called Joe Bloggs cleans out the SHW division beating everyone retiring 50-0, could he be compared to Ali for example, as he is in a different division, but both were in the top division at their time? It'll get confusing.

What i think should be done is raise the CW limit to 215-220 or something like that, then there would be less mismatches size wise.

There was talk of this really happening a few months back. The sanctioning bodies had a meeting on it. Nothing ever got released on what happened with it.

Perfect Example: Chambers vs. Wlad. The fight is just a clear mis match. Id love to see a Super Heavyweight Division.

But at that same token Id love to see Heavyweight have a weight limit. Like 240 or something like that. Guys coming in like Tyson Fury at 270 is just bull****. I think this would make the Heavyweight division better. Make these guys have to make weight like everybody else. Then all the lazy fat slobs can be stuck at Super Heavy.
I agree, even though I am a big Wlad fan its not really that great of a win for him against Chambers because Eddie realistically didn't have much of a chance. If he were bigger or Wlad smaller its a different fight.

I would like the CW division moved back down to 190 because a 25lb gap is a bit too much anyway between weight classes in addition to like you said capping off HW to around 240-250, leaving an unlimited SHW division for giants and guys who just don't want to slim down and do the work.

I actually dont think the Super Heavyweight division would be more prestigious.

The division would actually suck outside a few fighters. If Heavyweight had a weight limit all the lazy fat boxers would be at Super Heavy.

Heavyweight would still be where the most athletic and best fighters are.

If there is a super HW division then the cruiswerweight division should be abolished. I wouldn't want boxing to have 18 divisions. They have 17 and I think is too much. I want to eliminate the strawweight division.

And, what would be the limit for HW?

And, also I don't think it would eliminate other HWs to come in out of shape. They would just start campaigning at Super HW.

Plus the history and prestige of the HW division would greatly diminish like you mentioned. And, I wouldn't want that to happen.

I am actually not for this. Really we only have two big guys dominating. IMO when they retire you will not see these giants dominating the division again. Or maybe somebody does come along I don't know. But, I don't see anybody in the horizon right now.

Merge Cruiser with Heavyweight and make a Superheavy division would be best imo.

As everyone has said though all prestige of the HW division would be gone, I'm against making a SHW but if they would make one, as I said above, get rid of Cruiser.

so today Dempsey, Marciano, etc. would have no place in boxing because they were bigger than cruisers but no where near 250lbs.
Both Jack Dempsey and Rocky Marciano weighed 185-190 pounds. If they fought in today's era they would be classified as Cruisers and not Heavies.

Even in Marciano's time their were plenty of Heavyweight who weighed above today's 200 pound cut-off.

I believe if you are over 200 then you should be classified a Heavy.

I know you are big on history. Do you think having a SHW division would diminish the heavyweight class?

I for one think that Heavyweight would still be the more prestigious it would just take the guys who are lazy and dont want to work out and the guys who are just plain huge and ship them to SHW.

Then Cruiserweights who weigh near 180-190 pounds will stand absolutely no chance against men who will outweight them by 60-100 pounds.

                    I agree 110%.

Id really like to see a weight limit.

But Chambers beat Dimitrenko, and Wlad and Vitali have been beat in the past by smaller men(Sanders,Byrd,Brewster etc)Valuev was also beaten by Chagaev and Haye.
Making a SHW division would make both divisons absolutely awful.
Who would be in the SHW division?
