You can throw at a high volume and not necessarily be punching every second of every round. When you're opponent is not doing anything to stop you from punching, any Boxer in their right mind is going to throw a lot more punches than they regularly do, especially if you're fighting a guy like Clottey who is defense 1st, offense 4th.

could it be his opponent standing there not doing anything?

Dang these paranoid mofos are getting dumber and dumber... Not hard to figure out why the output was higher, not impossible as well.. Many fighters have nights throwing 1000+ punches out of character. Ponce De Leon threw over 1000 punches against Penalosa, Calzaghe threw over 1000 punches, etc. etc... This guy wants to make it about Pacquiao and peds because he believes crackheads like the ***** he is.

besides who here doesn't know that manny is a workhorse? Even before any of the su****ions, even before he got famous and even before he moved up in weight, he was always overtraining, he always believed the more you sweat in training the less you bleed in the ring.. so his body is extremely used to the pressure and the strain by now.

vitali klitschko threw over 1k punches against arreola. vitali is a heavyweight - pacquiao is a welterweight. vitali is also getting close to 40 years old. to suggest that pacquiao is on juice cause he threw 1.2k punches against clottey (who wasnt throwing anything) suggests that you dont know anything about boxing, the human body, science, reasoning, etc...

You lose a lot more energy when your punches miss than when they are blocked. Clottey blocks punches rather than avoiding them, which makes it easier to throw a lot of punches. In addition, Clottey stands right in front of you without throwing many punches and does not attack the body, so he is the perfect opponent to get a huge punch count against.

I am willing to concede that Clottey's shell could have helped to produce a higher number of punches from pac but not over 1200 and not the quantity of power punches he was able to throw.

Nah, Clottey covered up because he fear getting KO. I was at the fight and you could see clottey only letting his hands go when it was safe to do so. He had too much respect for Pacquiao and you could see, He fought Margarito who threw a lot of punches as well but he didnt have too much respect for Rito's punches because he can see them coming, With Pac who cant see some of those punches and Clottey was very aware as not to get caught with anything big from a different angle.
