This would be like Vinny Vs Roy with Sergio being Roy, Cotto would be out of there off accumulation and stoppage or one punch being that Sergio is a far bigger man the harder puncher the better boxer the better counter puncher and has a better chin...If Sergio even counter his jab he could have Cotto down...No way Cotto wins.

Cotto can get to Martinez. I wonder how he'll react to him when he puts his punches together though. You have to think they'd study the Pac fight. Not saying Martinez is on Pac's level, but when you factor in his reach, he could keep Cotto out of range and throw.

Still Pavlik started to time Martinez jumping in, I don't see why Cotto can't do the same.

People keep saying Martinez is like Marg/Pac or he punches in combos, has reach etc. The fact is that it really means ****, because while he does punch in combo's and moves well he doesn't do either of these things nearly as fast as any of the guys Cotto's fought at WW. Cotto's speed is not lacking at 154, it may have been at 147 but at 154 Cotto is probably the fastest guy behind Martinez and Foreman and he just killed Foreman.

Another thing is this reach thing... it really makes no difference when Martinez drops his hands constantly. If you hands are at your hips you have no reach and Cotto's jab, speed and reach are enough to keep Martinez from dropping them. I just see Martinez getting jabbed to death and without being able to drop his hands he'll gas enough to be dropped or simply be too tired to win enough rounds. I don't think this fight should be made yet, but after one more fight with Stewart in his corner Cotto could potential own 154.

I think Cotto could hang with Martinez a few rds but Martinez' movement and power will keep Cotto off him. Foreman did not have enough pop to hurt Cotto while Martinez could rock Cotto badly with a left or right hook. Martinez has the speed, movement, power (maybe close but I say Martinez is stronger), height, and reach. I see Cotto losing a UD over a 12 rd war with Cotto getting cut yet again and flashes back to the Pac and Marg fights.

huge cotto fan but no way does he beat martinez. Martinez is a awesome slick fighter and way to fast. Sergio is a beast. He's going to be at the hall of fame this year to visit which is this weekend can't wait to get his autograph on a glove and a picture. I became a fan of his too after seeing him fight. Fun to watch. I also think sergio could be floyd.

I don't understand why people are saying Cotto does well with movers? The only real movers he fought stopped and let Cotto dig at their body. (Maliggnaggi, Judah, Quintana) That is the reason why Quintana got beaten by Berto because he stopped and let Berto tee off on him. Martinez does not stop and when he stops he usually stops at a distance where he knows his opponent cannot hit him. The man is almost impossible to pin down. Pacquiao fought a moving man's fight in the beginning of his fight with Cotto and once he felt Cotto's punches did nothing to him Pacquiao simply outfought him in the exchanges and Cotto was converted the mover. Martinez has the advantage size, speed, and his power is as potent or more powerful than Cotto's IMO. This fight is interesting because Martinez has enough defensive deficiencies (such as his balance) and he takes breaks during rounds which is probably due to his cycling background where a cyclist does not pedal as fast in some laps to conserve energy for the final lap. Martinez applies this to his boxing. Therefore Cotto beating Martinez is surely not out of the realm of possibility, but I favor Martinez to win. Should be a great fight if it were to happen, but Arum seems to think that the top light middlweight fighters belong under the Top Rank banner.
