Is Shane Mosley an ATG?

Shanes fought many fights out of his weightclass. Won some, lost some. He did very well in my opinion.

in my opinion dlh is the only fighter you listed that is a hofer.

This constitutes ATG? Two of those weight titles were against DLH, one controversially. Also he was losing to Mayorga on my card until the final round stoppage (although I didn't have him losing to Cotto either - had it a draw or Mosley by 1 if I recall). Margarito is what made him HoF worthy, but I find ATG status ridiculous. Mosley's skills are greatly overestimated - speed and power, not skill, are what made him successful. What could have been had he never gone higher then, let's say, 140, is anyone's speculation. Forrest being "way too big" for WW is meaningless - he made the weight limit and never fought above 154. Both times Mosley won championships beyond 135 he immediately encountered opponents he could not conquer.

Exactly - Mosley's defining moment was moving up two weights to legitimately beat DLH for the welterweight crown after having faced years of questionable opposition. He went into that fight a question mark and came out a champion.

good balanced post guys. i think a lot of people get carried away & judge fighters due to their name recognition. shane only has one hall of famer in his resume oscar & nobody else. He's had a very solid great hall of fame career but its well below ATG status.

if he would have beaten floyd that would have helped his case. shane really wasnt that exceptional of a boxer or technician. he relied a lot on his raw athleticism, speed, & power much like roy jones jr.

tough one...........if you have delahoya in the top 100......shane deserves to be there...................his performance against MARG may clinch it though...............................

I don't know about that. Shane's two biggest names are Margarito and De La Hoya. Both marred in controversy. I haven't drawn up a list but I'd be hard-pressed to put him in the top 100. So many great fighters. Still, he had a fine career and deserves to be in the HOF.

He has a case. Worse guys than Mosley have gotten in. He was always exciting to watch and his only losses were to elites. 3 of those losses were close. He was in the top 10 p4p for 6 or so years. I don't sweat p4p much myself but historians do. He has his share of good wins and belts.

Yeah, I hear you. I was hoping for a little better against Floyd - I know Shane felt that he really wasn't getting the respect that he deserved (legacy-wise) and really wanted to prove that against Mayweather.
