I don't think Cintron dove out of the ring on purpose. I believe the momentum of the trip carried him out there.

It was right after that when the doctor asked him twice if he could continue and Cintron twice said NO. It was not until after the decision in the fight was made that Cintron suddenly found the will to continue fighting. That tells me he tried to get a cheap win without working for it.

That sounds pretty close to how I see it...he stated in interviews after that he thought he was easily winning the fight. Not easily in my view but I do believe he was winning.

I wonder if Lyle read the article where the doctor stated that he asked Cintron if he wanted to continue and Cintron twice replied that he did not want to continue.

To those saying that Cintron has 5 minutes are right but what is the doctor supposed to do when the fighter says he is unable to continue; He ends the fight.

Some ask for a reason of why Cintron would quit a fight that he was supposedly winning or that he could not have possibly planned such an event to happen. Yes, Cintron could not have planned it.

However, if he was thinking that he was ahead on scorecards and he saw an opportunity to get out of the fight with a victory and a paycheck without going the duration of the fight how is that not motive enough?

Regardless of wether or not Cintron wanted to fight after going out of the ring. He obviously did not jump out of the ring to end the fight.

Did he jump out the ring? Sort of.

He was clearly falling forward after tripping on Williams legs. So either he falls into the ropes or he goes through them. He decided to go through them. This was obviously not a planned event to get out of the fight. In the split second decision while falling forward he didnt have time to think - ok Im winning the fight, now I can just jump out, hit my head and pretend to be injured.

However he didn't show much interest in resuming the fight.

Well, we'll never really know what really happened...and the only reality I see developing for frogman, is that people are beginning to see a negative emotional and behavioral pattern in him and are just plainly doubting his heart in boxing. If cintron wants to recover his reputation, he's going to need like, minimum, five fights where he shows boxing fans something different; something that's totally different to what he did with williams. I agree that a fighter should get up, suck it up and continue fighting. He chose not to and preferred to LAY on the ground before doctors had even gotten to him. It so much reminds me of when he fought martinez - gets hit with a glove, feels he's in trouble, and starts to create unnecessary drama to alter the momentum of the fight. Fighters fight through head butts all the time, but not cintron. He chose to crumble to the canvas backwards and start whining that martinez hit him with his head. Cintron needs to gut check himself because he's already developing a bad reputation. And lastly, cintron displays other behavior that makes me question his attitude. I sense cintron is angry...I sense he is frustrated about something. I don't know what it is, but if you notice, he seems upset most of the time; rarely smiles. This gives me further reason to doubt his spirit in the ring. I don't know anything about his personal life, but if you throw a tantrum by threatening to leave boxing, that's slightly immature behavior if you ask me. If you fight again, Kermit, ill watch but I'm going to expect you to fight through whatever, whatever, whatever happens during the fight. This is it. From now on we're going to expect something different from you. You're reputation is on the line.

I don't believe Cintron purposely jumped out of the ring. For anyone to think that is ridiculous. The momentum he had either meant he went into the ropes or through them and he went through them. However I do believe that he tried to exaggerate the fall and it backed fired on him. He claims the doctors forced him to stay down but they would only force him to stay down if he told them something was wrong. Then all of a sudden once he's strapped into the stretcher he can move again.

                  Cintron has no heart

Listen man, whether or not he intentionally flew out the ring is not important. I don't think he did purposely throw himself out, but that still doesn't justify laying on the ground like had just broken his back, and then protest that he wanted to fight after being strapped down on a stretcher. GET THE *&*&() UP. You want to fight; GET UP. Don't act like you just broke your back when you fall is no worse than when I fall out of my bed. Cintron is supposed to be an athlete, I've seen worse falls of old ladies on America's Funniest Home Videos. Cintron quit, plan and simple. I'll put my house that if Paul William was the one who fell out the ring he would be up and back in the ring in less than a minute. Paul Williams could've fallen down a flight of concrete stairs and still would've gotten up to fight. Cintron laid on the floor and let them take him away. I've followed boxing for years, and I have more respect for these athletes than most people. These guys leave their blood and sweat and never complain. As a matter of fact, I am the first to yell stop the fight when a guy is taking too much of a beating. But Cintron, there is no excuse or rationale for it, he fell, he wasn't hurt, and he quit.

But the more I review snippets of commentary coming off Saturday night’s curtailed main event at the Home Depot Center in suburban Los Angeles, the less I think it’s me who’s nuts.

Rather than the “tough luck” and “give him another shot” sentiment I naturally assumed would follow Kermit Cintron’s ill-fated tumble and dubious scorecard loss to multi-division phenom Paul Williams, the responses in some circles have leaned toward harsh at best.

                    And ridiculous at worst.

Before we begin, however… make no mistake. I’m aware of Kermit’s history.

I know some snicker when recalling his emotional in-ring collapse following a loss to Antonio Margarito in 2005. I understand some thought it scorn worthy when he writhed on the floor with hand pain after stopping Jesse Feliciano two years later. [Click Here To Read More]
Good article Lyle, but I'd be more impressed by it if you'd written a similarly scathing article about the arseholes who claim that because Pacquiao wasn't willing to meet Mayweather's terms in their negotiations, it's obvious he must be on steroids. That pathetic and childish claim is just as commonly stated on these boards as the ridiculous claims about Cintron taking a dive, and is every bit as ridiculous, if not more so.
