  • Comments Thread For: Cintron’s Saturday Critics Veer From ****** To Offensive

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Maybe it’s the jet lag.

No question, the practice of traipsing from Florida to California and back within a 22-hour time frame is enough to wobble the senses of an already-loopy 41-year-old like myself.

But the more I review snippets of commentary coming off Saturday night’s curtailed main event at the Home Depot Center in suburban Los Angeles, the less I think it’s me who’s nuts.

Rather than the “tough luck” and “give him another shot” sentiment I naturally assumed would follow Kermit Cintron’s ill-fated tumble and dubious scorecard loss to multi-division phenom Paul Williams, the responses in some circles have leaned toward harsh at best.

    And ridiculous at worst.

Before we begin, however… make no mistake. I’m aware of Kermit’s history.

I know some snicker when recalling his emotional in-ring collapse following a loss to Antonio Margarito in 2005. I understand some thought it scorn worthy when he writhed on the floor with hand pain after stopping Jesse Feliciano two years later. [Click Here To Read More]

The doctor, Paul Wallace, is now defending himself. According to Wallace, Cintron was asked twice if he was able to continue and both times he replied "no." Wallace said he would have allowed the fight to restart if Cintron had indicated that he was capable of continuing.

"I did say I wanted the fight stopped because the fighter twice said he could not continue He was asked, 'Can you continue?' and he said 'no.' Twice. If he had mentioned to me something like, 'Give me a moment ... ,' I understand; these are warriors. Any hint that he still wanted to participate we would've given that to him. We would have got him up and given him a second evaluation," Wallace told The LA Times.

Once Wallace called the fight, he claims Cintron changed his mind and wanted the fight to continue.

Even the Doctor aint buying it. Cintron got released from the Hospital with NO INJURIES not even a scratch.

Real simple. If you want to fight, get up, no matter what the doctor says, and walk towards the ring. Don't lay there like you're dead like Andre Dirrell.

yea like the doctor is going to admit that he didnt let him continue even after now seeing that he should have allowed him 5 minutes to see if he could continue. He could probably lose his job over that but its u burner the paul williams **** hugger iud believe anything that makes ur fighter look better

Even the ringside doctor has come out and said that Cintron claimed he couldn't continue. Twice.

What do you say to that Lyle?

At least Dirrell got nailed in the ring by a fighter who has proven power.
