In my opinion Floyd is now an ATG top 20 lock

He was on a Top 50 ATG back in 2005 in a few articles.
He been Top 40.
The bolded is a testament on how good Floyd is. It shouldnt be a knock on him. He was the favorite against Pac too.Comment

I agree and I thought about that as I wrote it, but detractors will point out guys they think he should have fought and didnt. But its true, he was so much better than many of his opponents, I think the real measure of Floyd is even the opponents he's faced, he's dominated them worse than they had been beaten before. He is just that good.Comment

IMO, floyds biggest wins are g. hernandez, j. castillo, corrales and hatton. corrales and hatton were both undefeated & in their prime fighters when they fought. shane and oscar were both past primes and sizable underdogs and i totaly disagreed with shane being #3 p4p off of beating margarito.Comment

They are probably the only three that will really be remembered as greats. Castillo and Corrales are both excellent wins but they're not guys that crown their conquerors as top 20 all-time greats. Genaro Hernandez had a top quality career and was one of the guys to beat at 130lbs when Floyd fought him, but will he be remembered as anything other than a name on Mayweather's (and De La Hoya's) résumé? Hatton and Judah are good, not great. Gatti will be more remembered for his ability to put on a great show rather than his ability to beat top boxers.
Don't get me wrong, you know I'm a massive Mayweather fan and find all this very impressive - for the most part Floyd did what he had to do and in dominating fashion, but he never had a real wealth of worthy foes available to him, and a few that he did, he never fought for one reason or another.
Let's just hope the Pacquiao fight gets made as that is the type of win that defines an era, let alone a résumé, and could make up for the historical significance that a lot of his 41 lack in the public's eyes.Comment

Fair enough. Pacquiao is thee fight. Martinez or Williams would be okay too. They are probably the only three that will really be remembered as greats. Yeah, they would be great too. Williams already has a name worth mentioning plus a size advantage, and Martinez is now the Ring, WBO, WBC and lineal middleweight champion.
Two great alternatives to the Pacquiao fight, but still not quite a Pacquiao fight of course.Comment
