Before the 2nd cut,I had Pavlik up by a point.Once he got cut,he lost more than just his vision-he may have lost the will to fight....

I thought Pavlik was coming on also, but that could have more to do with Martinez slowing down a bit, he couldn't keep that pace for all 12 rounds. Either way Pavlik landed some solid shots and Martinez handled them fairly well for a guy moving up in weight facing a heavy handed puncher--that's impressive.

P-Will would have offered more real estate to Pavlik and I could see Pavlik winning that fight, but that depends on whether or not P-Will could take Pavliks best and not fall apart. 168 is too deep for Pav, he needs to stay at 160 for a few more fights and call it a day.

Wouldn't like to see him against Dirrell but I would like to see Pavlik Froch because the 2 styles .

u guys are saying like Martinez is the real deal. Martinez ran the hole fight of course he took the first 4 rds then KP took over and was hurting Martinez pretty bad otherwise Sergios face wouldnt have been swollen. i also had KP up by a rd and then KP for some dumb reason let Sergio bust him up. Kelly gave the fight up. If not for thoes cuts KP would of KO'D him in the next rd or two.

Martinez is the truth, he is skillful, and a great athlete with a good set of whiskers, you can go a long way in the sport if you possess all three attributes. Pav needs a new trainer (not sure what impact it would have but it certainly can't hurt at this stage of his career) and he could have hired a guy at Jiffy Lube as his cut man, would have probably done a better job at stemming some of the blood flow. The cut contributed to his loss no doubt, but using an end-swell without any chemical blood clotting agents was amateur hour in the words of Ron Burgundy.

Its called falling to a trap and that was the only thing Pavlik did brilliantly, and of course Martinez ran quite a bit a way smaller fighter coming up in weight to fight a big puncher, but you obviously missed half the fight because Martinez threw quite a few punches and in the last 3-4 rounds smashed Pavlik up. To say he ran for the whole fight is just ****** talk, he ran when he had to and threw when he wanted to and stepped on and off the gas at the right moments. To anyone with half a brain he executed a well thought out plan brilliantly. You make it sound like hes scared to get hit and runs around the ring like a *****. He stood toe to toe with Williams for 12 and fought smart with Pavlik, the mans a very skilled fighter wether you like him of not, and i cant speak for everyone but i think he deserves a lot more credit than he gets. I dont expect it on boxingscene tho because theres to many biased fools who are too quick to hate because they dislike a fighter in question.

I agree with you. I watched it with another guy who thought Martinez was running around and just pot-shotting, which he wasn't. Martinez utilized effective movement and got off with substantive punches, which is how the cuts occurred in the first place.

Martinez circled to KP left which took his right hand out of the fight. He has no hook, no uppercut, no overhands. Just one punch and Martinez nullified it by moving away from him. And KP is the type of fighter who has to set his feet to throw with any effectiveness. As long as you keep him moving you will offset his power. KP is DONE. And who taught him how to cut the ring off?

Pavlik should give Martinez another go. before the cut, he was finding his range and avoiding most of Serg's shots. All he needs to do is let his hands go. sucks because Williams will say a fight against Pavlik doesnt do anything for him now. If we ever want to see a Pavlik Williams throwdown, the only way is for Kelly to do more in the rematch.

The fight may still happen if Pavlik pushes hard for the rematch against Martinez. Martinez clearly won but Pavlik was giving Martinez a run for his money rounds 5-8 Martinez slowed down considerably and was getting hit much more. In round 9 Martinez got his second wind and was picking speed back up.

agreed. its never part of anyones plan to lose 4-5 rds in a row and give the other fighter the momentum. Martinez wasnt slowing up, Pavlik was getting busier. Serg was still trying to land double lefts and they werent hitting their mark like in the first few rounds. rd 10 (or 9) is when Serg came out quick and caught Kelly with the left that cut him and won the fight for him. Kelly hesitated from that point on.
