Hopkins: I'll create a Canadian Kelly Pavlik out of Lucian Bute

That doesn't make any sense when Bute has a fight coming up next week and assuming he wins they can schedule a fight in a few months from now and oh yeah, make a lot more money.
If hopkins wants to fight again he needs to do it quick, not Dec of 2010 or Jan/Feb of 2011 when he's 46.
Floyd fans always talk about money, money, money but when it comes to bernard hopkins it's not even considered. Any way you look at it Bute is better for bernard right now - doesn't have to wait nearly a year and makes more money.Last edited by ИATAS; 04-10-2010, 05:30 PM.Comment

So you propose that Bernard Hopkins waits until early 2011 to fight Chad Dawson for less money?

He had a couple of chances to make the Dawson fight though. If hes going to fight Bute do it at Bute's weight of 168 Pounds. Not 170.Comment

Bute makes sense RIGHT NOW. Dawson is to far away, even if the money is right (which it isn't, hopkins would likely make $1 million against Dawson vs a possible $3 million against Bute). Hopkins cant afford to take another year off from boxing, are you crazy?Comment

Keyword: FINANCIALLY, Hopkins said that he would go to Canada to fight him, which means, he obviously cares for a big crowd, which is what Bute brings to the table and Dawson doesn't.
Also in the interest of keeping it real, as a Hopkins fan (and I already mentioned cherry picking and why he is entitled to do that), B-hop probably wants to fight Bute because he sees something that he can exploit. He said he will turn him into another Kelly Pavlik, so he must be certain that he can beat him.
He probably doesn't have that same confidence against Dawson who he views as a bigger threat, BUT that goes back to the whole Rick Vs Reward factor, if a Dawson victory brought more reward than risk, he'd bite in a second.Last edited by cupocity303; 04-10-2010, 05:37 PM.Comment

I dont see him getting 3 Million vs. Bute. HBO might not even broadcast that fight.Comment

Well if you've read my post about why he doesn't have to fight Dawson, then the answer lies in that post.

Even with Bute no one in the states knows who he is. I doubt HBO PPV will pick it up. Hell regular HBO might not pick it up.Comment

Yeah anyone who watched Andrade damn near knock Bute out should see something there that Hops can capitalize on. If Hopkins came out today and said "I want Dawson" Chad would pull out the Pascal fight in the same day. Not to mention that fight has been moved twice now.
