Hopkins sat around ducking Dawson and fighting the Ornelas's of the world when Dawson and even Williams wanted a fight. That has nothing to do with GBP. Yet he fights a shot Roy Jones in a heartbeat.

And in Mosleys case he turned down Berto earlier in the year, Williams and Clottey. That had nothing to do with GBP.

imho, that's the best scenario. hopkins won't quit until someone really kicks his ass. I think bute could have the tools to do it.

How did he duck Dawson? Chad decides to go and fight old glenn johnson at the same time Bernard fought Calzaghe, then he went and fought tarver with a mandatory rematch, then he fought johnson for a rematch, When was bernard supposed to fight him? And why is Dawson fighting these old ass guys anyway? He needs to take on some of these young cats.

Actually his reasoning makes alot of sense. He basically gave three reasons why it's not worth fighting Dawson:

1. He doesn't do anything for Hopkins's legacy. Just another young title holder.

2. If he doesn't do anything for his legacy, then he should make up for it financially, which he doesn't. He is not a ticket seller, draw etc,.

3. Risk Vs Reward - Hopkins acknowledged the risk in facing Dawson, who he thinks is a very good fighter but thinks the risk (which are examples 1 and 2) outweighs the Reward.


And he also said, why try beating another young fighter who could be promoting down the line, and who could be the future of boxing once all the Old-Timers are retired for goood.


Sidenote: Keep this in mind if you aint buying his excuses, he is 45 years old, he doesn't have any official World Titles so he isn't keeping anything from Chad Dawson or any active 175lb fighter. With his age & credentials, he is ENTITLED to cherrypick. And at the end of the day, he isn't gonna fight bums because as he put it, he needs fights that MOTIVATE him so whoever it is, is who it is.
