As much as i'm not a fan he was a great fighter. He did get alot of gifts though.

He has had a strange career IMHO:

    - He basically beat prime Trinidad and SSM (juiced to the gills aswell) in my book that's pretty damn good even though officially he lost.

    - He basically lost to Sweet Pea, Sturm and arguably Quartey even though officially he won.

He also beat guys like JCC, Gatti, Hernandez, Mayorga, Vargas and Gonzalez. Lost to Mayweather, Hopkins and Pac.

So when you look at it, he has fought a hell of alot of quality opponents and lost and won in questionable fashion.

Being the biggest star in the sport afforded him too much favouritism at times though.

I can see how he how he probably did take dive. I think he sense Hopkins coming on strong, landing more, and didn't want to get his face rearranged that he just went to the mat with any punch that landed.

Or maybe it was a legit body shot that he couldn't get up from...

Who knows? It is all speculation....

Fact is dude is a fishnet stocking wearing faggot ass HOF'er but not an ATG

A few questions... did the Castillejo fight happen before or after the ODLH fight? I remember Vargas telling Oscar he wasn't fighting a ***** like Castillejo.

Also, why does Castillejo not get more rep in boxing circles? If he was putting a beatdown on Vargas for a while, and beat Sturm, and had a controversial loss in the rematch, I think that alone makes him a pretty decent fighter. All I've ever heard about him is that he was just an opponent for bigger names, and a cherry picker. Doesn't sound like it.
Sorry, I was in other topics. It happened after the Oscar fight. Castillejo was undeafted when he fought Oscar (if memory serves correct).

I think that reason behind his rep has alot to do with the fact he was not american...Alot of folks never seen him fight (other than the Oscar fight, and that's cause it was against Oscar).

He had very good skill though. Vargas did knock him down once or twice in the fight. Those last rounds though, he put a beating on Vargas.

I may go home after work and watch the fight again. Just so I can talk about it better.

I love how we are both too lazy to check boxrec to see when the fight happened. I'm good with keeping that up.

I used to degrade Felix Sturm for that loss and close decision, but after hearing that, I'm a little more hesitant.

I started watching the sport in 2007, so I haven't seen every fight that a current top fighter has taken. I have seen 0 of Castillejo, and limited amounts of Sturm. I'm unqualified to speak on any of this, but I am trying to learn where these two fit into boxing.

Entertaining fighter, complete boxer-puncher, good looking. 10 times champion in 6 division.

oscars really underrated IMO.... here is the good and bad sides to his career

                      Oscar Beated the Following Fighters

                      - Jeff Mayweather
                      - Julio Cesar Chavez
                      - Pernell Whitaker
                      - Arturo Gatti
                      - Fernando Vargas
                      - Felix Strum
                      - Ricardo Mayorga

Now lets look at the Negatives at oscar..

                      Lost to the following Fighters

                      - Manny Pacqiuao
                      - Floyd Mayweather Jr
                      - Bernard Hopkins
                      - Shane Mosley (Twice)
                      - Felix Trinidad

apart from the losses oscar would definately be good enough to qualify for ATG since not only the fighters he beated but also being 6 Different weight class champion also qualifies..
