Oscar De LeHoya: What has he ever done to warrant ATG status?

That made Ali's phantom punch look like a crisp prime Mike Tyson uppercut. I've seen that replay a million times and it always looks like a weak ass glancing blow.
Plus look at the way Oscar sits there and ****s on the floor overplaying the whole thing like a whiny chick.
When guys get hit by a clean body shot, they're usually frozen stiff for 1 minute or 2 and this guy's being all theatrical trying to sell that he's hurt.

It is hard to say... There are body shots that paralyze you... However, the way he acted(or overacted) didn't sit well with me....
I can see how he how he probably did take dive. I think he sense Hopkins coming on strong, landing more, and didn't want to get his face rearranged that he just went to the mat with any punch that landed.
Or maybe it was a legit body shot that he couldn't get up from...
Who knows? It is all speculation....
Fact is dude is a fishnet stocking wearing faggot ass HOF'er but not an ATGComment

Thats exactly how I feel about it. 100% spot on.It is hard to say... There are body shots that paralyze you... However, the way he acted(or overacted) didn't sit well with me....

The fishnet pic's were real too. Anyone who believes that photoshop excuse is a straight up sucker.
I'd have much more respect for him if he owned it instead of lying about it.Comment

This, and the fact that he beat 96-1 Chavez, an undefeated Quartey (allegedly), P4P #1 Whitaker (allegedly) and prime Vargas (some would dispute prime, but a pretty damn good Vargas nonetheless).
I think the other thing people forget is that De La Hoya may have lost a lot of his big fights, but other than Pacquiao, he never got wiped out, which isn't something a lot of people can say.
If your blemish is being shot, weight drained as hell and getting facecrushed by one of the best fighters of all time, I feel like we can give you a pass for that one loss. He did retire immediately after that fight, so that does seem to have a shred of truth to it.
EDIT: I didn't realize it said ATG (**** you Bud Ice), so... this wasn't meant to justify his ATG status. He really wasn't even a generational great, but... he certainly could fight, and was top 10 of his era I think.Comment

The only thing I have to say about the bold is, Vargas won the fight, sure...If that fight would have went one more round, he would have been stopped.
Most fans forget that Vargas took a beating in the last three rounds of that fight! Suffered a broken jaw I believe. He took alot of hard shot in those last three rounds. To Vargas's credit, he did pretty much handle the fight though.
Edit: What I wrote really has nothing to do with anything, the topic included. Just when I saw that fight mentioned, it took me back to that night.Comment

A few questions... did the Castillejo fight happen before or after the ODLH fight? I remember Vargas telling Oscar he wasn't fighting a ***** like Castillejo.
Also, why does Castillejo not get more rep in boxing circles? If he was putting a beatdown on Vargas for a while, and beat Sturm, and had a controversial loss in the rematch, I think that alone makes him a pretty decent fighter. All I've ever heard about him is that he was just an opponent for bigger names, and a cherry picker. Doesn't sound like it.Comment
