he was a very good boxer who was good looking thus selling lots of tickets & publicity which in turn made him into a boxing legend.
if oscar had the same records, resume, & fought the same fights, but if he had a de****able looking face like lets say ricky hatton, he would have sold half & gotten half the credit.
just like if floyd was a quiet non american & did the same things & fought the same fighters he fought he would have gotten half the stuf he deserves.
oscar is not a ATG in a boxing resume & skills wise, but he's legend popularity wise.Comment

That's the big question and I'm not sure that's true. Especially when Delahoya had no interest in fighting Vargas until after he lost to Trinidad. Oscar used to say he would never fight Vargas. Oscar is an opportunist and I think he waited for the right time to make that fight for his benefit.Comment

i think we can all agree that his biggest win as a pro was vargas.just in case for those of you that dont know, oscar himself said in an interview after he retired that the greatest accomplishment in his life was winning the gold medalComment

You lost it, man. Francisco Castillejo is not a barometer for ANYONE. Stop trying to pretend Vargas beat Winky Wright for the WORLD CHAMPION that you keep hyping up. It was Castillejo - a subpar champ. Get over it. A washed up Wilfredo Rivera gave Vargas more problems, what does that tell you? Keep living in denial. And even if he wasn't ruined, so what? he damn sure wasn't the same. This is some good win? Oh wow, Oscar beat a guy who beat Fransco Castillejo, break out the mariachi band!Comment
