he was managed incorrectly after his wins over ODLH......he took a few fights at 154 he should not have......i know he is a big strong welter....but he really had no business being in there at 154 with Wright and Viper.....

Kind of strange considering how most of the greatest fighters are African Americans... B-Hop, rjj, whitaker etc.

      Floyd is a marketing genious.
Yeah we love boxing. But there are so many African-Americans to pick from.

At one time you had Winky, Mosley, Roy, Hopkins, and Floyd all making noise at the same time. Its hard to pick.

If nobody knew who Shane Mosley was or wasn't interested in seeing him fight, then his rematch with Vargas wouldn't have done close to 400,000 buys. Mosley's drawing power in actuality today is probably close to Floyd Mayweather's, because when you stop to think about it every fighter that's good won't draw good numbers when they are in with a ho-hum opponent because the fight is viewed as a mismatch. Now maybe Floyd really can fight anybody he wants and the PPV goes through the roof. But I've got my doubts. He has however become a cross over star and he has worked hard in portraying a love me or hate me image.

floyd has fans in Atlantic City......he started the ball rolling with the Gatti fight.....and he also fought Corley in an agressive manner on purpose over in AC to make sure he kept those fans and got some more......he could have easily boxed Corley but he made a point to **** with him and it was a very exciting fight.........

You have to put it in people's heads that you are the greatest, have them talk about you. Tyson said evil things, he was in commercials, threatened to eat your children, knocked guys out in 1 round, he backed it up so he had a fanbase. Mayweather talks ****, he says he's the best, he says he's better than Leonard and Ronbinson(Is he? no but he still has you debating over it) and what else does he have to "back that up"? an undefeated record.
Did Sugar Ray Robinson or Leonard claim to be the greatest?

i've been to 2 floyd fights and neither time there was a huge mayweather contingent. just small pockets of fans scattered throughout the arena.

even watching his fights. you never see sections of mayweather fans. theyre always outnumbered by a huge margin
What fights did you go to? I been to his home town fights in Michigan and he had good crowds but he was still an up and coming young fighter.

Now hes at the level where he attracts stars, casual fans and just people who like sports period. Mayweather fights are now like the "it" thing in boxing like How Tyson fights used to be.

floyd ran with it after the Gatti fight IMO.....he has always been ****y and a talker...but being nice and respectful was getting him nowhere so he embraced the heel role.....

Look at Roy why wasn't he that big of a draw? Because, he never had a promoter.

What makes Floyd a draw and not Shane? Or what makes Leonard a draw but not Whitaker? You have to blame the management team sometimes...
Same case with Jmm against Em and Mab I guess. Even factoring Jmm not fan friendly style, he could have had a better fanbase than now if promoted right.

Yeah it was during the very hype of that fight. Floyd was pissed he couldnt get fights then on top of that his first PPV everyone came to see Gatti which is why Floyd beat him up so bad you could see the fire in his face.

Floyd was not the draw.. Paying to watch him lose is rooting for the other guy..
