And when could Roy had fought Julian Jackson and G-Mac?
Why doesn't Shane Mosley have a fan base?

good post...i agree with this to a certain degree.....young fight fans get excited over ppv numbers but look. ali, srl, srr, and other's impact was on an entir culture...or generation of people! this cannot be measured. they didnt have ppv, how about;;;;let me ask you like this; how many people do you think listened to them on the radio? how many familes do you think listened to their fights? cant say pbf is that impactful on a culture like those. floyd has exposure because of 1.delehoya fight 2. wwe 3. the hip hop, or young adult population....all this is cool...no hating here...i just see through the mirage of his personality and the slight bit of vulnuralbility in his game...i believe that floyd has mad game, but shane mosley does too....fellas do not sleep on shane!!! anyway; shane is too nice, thats why he doesn't draw. personally, i can appreciate that quality in him....thats part of the reason why i am his fan!!! believe me, shane got support out here,,,,we might be a little older, wiser, and a tab bit less confronting (on b.s.) but we are here!!!! war mosley!!!!!!Everybody likes Mosley as a fighter. He's a likable guy, he just does not have a fan base, just fans of other fighters who root for him. The people will buy Mayweather-Mosley, are either Floyd fans or anti-Floyd fans and maybe a couple thousand Mosley fans.
Jones, Hopkins, Wright, Forrest(RIP), Dawson, Williams, Mosley...Sad truth is these guys will always have a strong hardcore fanbase but never in the level of Robinson, Ali, Leonard, Louis, Tyson, Mayweather. As much as people want to deny it, Mayweather's drawing power is already up there with greatest African American boxers of all time. He may not be as great as them, I admit, but he is a draw like they were.Comment

Shane is my favorite fighter. He doesnt have a following because he beat Hoya is what i think. Oscar was the face of boxing and some guy from light weight comes and beats him. It should have shot Shane into superstardom but.....Comment

Lets not forget the past couple of years hes been up and down inactively. That hurts you cause you come back out of nowhere and the excitement to see him again has vanished and hasnt been exposed to the public on a consitent basis.Comment

Roy Jones did try to be a celebrity type of boxer. Why do think Roy was doing the basketball thing. The biggest one of all was Roy aligning himself with Rap-A-Lot records possibly the biggest black rap label in the south. Its just that **** didn't work for Roy but he sure did try. Vernon Forrest tried a little when he switched his style up and came into his 1st fight with Mayorga I believe with that young rapper lil Archie from ATL that had one of the top 3 hottest rap songs out at that point. You don't think that was a move to attract more people to him especially the blak community. We all know B-Hop didn't try.
I think putting all the major fights in vegas has done black boxers the biggest disservice. I mean the south west and west coast has a majority latino population why would a black boxer on the come up think its beneficial to build up a black fan base trying to constantly get on PPV fight cards in vegas. IMO the majority of the black people who truly follow boxing and want to support black fighters can't afford to go to vegas from the east coast 2-3 times a year. It would make sense for people like PBF and Bradley and Alexander and many other black fighters to have any fight that is not a mega-fight in other venues on the east coast and in the south. PBF could have fought Marquez in Detroit or Chicago or Miami or Atlantic City or DC. IMO it those types of fights that would make people save and budget to make it to Vegas for the TRUE MEGA fights. Promoters and managers need to stop that Vegas or bust ****!!!!Last edited by tredh; 03-22-2010, 01:30 PM.Comment
