Yeah I know what you mean. HBO and his bad guy act sealed the deal. He straight up clowned up Gatti in that build up and that was his first PPV. He felt disrespected because everyone kept ducking him and he couldnt get the fights he wanted so he took it out on Gatti in from his loyal fans. From then on it was a wrap.

African Americans arent huge draws for some reason.

      Leonard- 80's
      Floyd-2000's
      Tyson- Late 80's, 90's

You have to really be special to stand out.
Because, some are not promoted right...

Look at Roy why wasn't he that big of a draw? Because, he never had a promoter.

What makes Floyd a draw and not Shane? Or what makes Leonard a draw but not Whitaker? You have to blame the management team sometimes...

And, the bad guy deal just came out of nowhere? HBO was just pushing that out of nowhere? Or did Al Haymon had something to do with it? Didn't Haymon join Floyd team around this time?

Yeah thats true. Also there are so many good African-American fighters that fans can pick from so its rare to see most people get behind a particular fighter.

              Good point.

Don't African Americans follow boxing as much as mexicans, ricans or filipino's?

Kind of strange considering how most of the greatest fighters are African Americans... B-Hop, rjj, whitaker etc.

              Floyd is a marketing genious.

To be the greatest you have to say you're the greatest. You have to have a mouth and back it up with your record. People will deny it but Ali use to diss the fighters of the past saying he's greater than them..he had a mouth. You have to put it in people's heads that you are the greatest, have them talk about you. Tyson said evil things, he was in commercials, threatened to eat your children, knocked guys out in 1 round, he backed it up so he had a fanbase. Mayweather talks ****, he says he's the best, he says he's better than Leonard and Ronbinson(Is he? no but he still has you debating over it) and what else does he have to "back that up"? an undefeated record.

Im not sure I'll have to look it up but Haymon played a huge part with the great management he gave Floyd throughout his career. Its his job to manage Floyds career he really played a big role.

i've been to 2 floyd fights and neither time there was a huge mayweather contingent. just small pockets of fans scattered throughout the arena.

even watching his fights. you never see sections of mayweather fans. theyre always outnumbered by a huge margin

Boxing is half marketing and half fighting. Just because you are a good fighter doesn't mean you are going to have fans. Mosley to me is just meh, what else can you say about the guy other than he is good fighter.
