Everybody likes Mosley as a fighter. He's a likable guy, he just does not have a fan base, just fans of other fighters who root for him. The people will buy Mayweather-Mosley, are either Floyd fans or anti-Floyd fans and maybe a couple thousand Mosley fans.

Jones, Hopkins, Wright, Forrest(RIP), Dawson, Williams, Mosley...Sad truth is these guys will always have a strong hardcore fanbase but never in the level of Robinson, Ali, Leonard, Louis, Tyson, Mayweather. As much as people want to deny it, Mayweather's drawing power is already up there with greatest African American boxers of all time. He may not be as great as them, I admit, but he is a draw like they were.

Yeah I think in boxing today it is very difficult to be strictly american and be a huge star. Guys like Oscar have Mexican roots so its a little different because he can get support from the Mexican community as well as his American fans. Shane being American can not benifit from nationalistic pride like fighters who have roots else where. It wasnt always this way because Americans used to support fighters but it is where we currently are. The guys who have been successful recently except for Mayweather (an American) have had great support from people who share the same roots. Bob Arum felt he could change this with Pavlik and felt Pavlik had to the potential to be bigger than De La Hoya but the combination of the loss and reality setting in didnt allow it.

Thats why Shane not a draw.
              Was Whitaker a big draw?

I think Shane was really beginning to establish a big fan base when he loss to Vernon.

And the Winky fights hurt him as well.

              Oh and Balco hurt to.

                Exactly.

He was at his peak in the 80's.

African Americans arent huge draws for some reason.

                Leonard- 80's
                Floyd-2000's
                Tyson- Late 80's, 90's

You have to really be special to stand out.

Everybody had fans throughout there whole career Burner. Tito always had a loyal fanbase, Pac always had a loyal fanbase. Roy Joneas, Hopkins, Shane Mosley, always had a loyal fanbase.

But, Floyd popularity hit through the roof when he hooked up with Haymon. He became the draw, household name, whatever you want to say when Haymon came on board.

Not really, Whitaker had a loyal fanbase. But, he was not a draw... His style wasn't fan friendly.
