Cotto was not offered EXTRA money...E-X-T-R-A...as in, aside from the purse split because of weight issues...Marquez was

          • Pacquiao demanded that Miguel Cotto come down to 145. Fine. Cotto could have easily walked away and said no. He didn't though. Cotto agreed.

          • Mayweather and Marquez agreed to 144. The contract was later and changed to 147 only after Mayweather, Marquez, Golden Boy Promotions, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission all agreed on the new contract. It doesn't matter if it was last minute or a month's notice. Like Cotto, Marquez could have said no but he agreed. Much like Cotto he decided to exploit himself for a paycheck.

The contract was accpeted by all the parties involved including the NSAC as I just mentioned. The NSAC could have refused to honor the contract becuase according to their rules a contract must be submitted 72 hours before a bout. That means they chose to honor the new contract and the new weight of 147 pound limit.

NAC 467.102 Contract between manager and unarmed combatant: General requirements; arbitration of disputes; authority of managers; assignment. (NRS 467.030)
          1. The Commission may refuse to honor a contract between a manager and an unarmed combatant unless it is filed with the Commission at least 72 hours before a scheduled contest or exhibition and it complies with the requirements of this section.

having a guy who is currently fighting at 135 fight at a 144 catchweight is bad enough. not making the weight and changing the contract on him at the last minute is a even worse.

pacquiao last weighed in at 138 before cotto. cotto last weighed in at 146 before pacquiao.

if you think pacquiao making cotto going down 1 lb. while he goes up 7 lbs. is the same as making a guy go up 9 lbs. initially (12 lbs. eventually) while you yourself come in at whatever weight you want is the same thing......i don't know what's wrong with you.
All parties agreed to the weight in Mayweather vs Marquez, as well as Pacquiao vs Cotto, as well as Pacquiao vs DLH. DLH had no business fighting at WW and neither does Marquez. They both learned the hard way.

at least delahoya went down in weight while making the smaller guy come up.

yes pacquiao had to move up from 135 to 147 but delahoya had to move down from 154 (or 150 if you prefer) to 147.

plus pacquiao knew months going into the fight that he was fighting at 147. he had to time to prepare himself.

even primadonna , boxing's golden goose oscar didn't have the nerve to change the contract on his opponent a week before the fight.

oscar actually tried to lose weight to make it more competitive.

What hell was Marquez suppose to do? Walk away from the Mexicans who paid money to watch him? Please.....there wouldn't be a second contract if Floyd had kept his end of the bargain.

                      JMM was a tune up.

                      Floyd didnt make the weight.

He paid the penalty for his actions.

                      Move on.
