Hopkins-Jones II: Better Never Than Late

Originally posted by TheGoossen View PostTarver: is meaningful because he moved up, but Tarver as a fighter is pretty poor. He fights like a mummy got wiped out by a journey/contender (Harding) and got outboxed by another journeyman (Johnson). He is at best a B level lhw fighter
-Hopkins was 40 years old and coming off back to back losses.
-Hopkins moved up from 160 to 175
-Tarver was a 4-1 favorite to win the fight.
-Hopkins put on an absolute CLINIC on Tarver, which no one had EVER done before.
Calzaghe: This fight would of been more meaningful at smw, why did he make Calzaghe move up?
-Calzaghe was going to Light Heavyweight with or without Hopkins. That was his plan. He had stated for several years 168 was getting more and more difficult to make weight and he revealed his plans to go to LH long before hopkins was an option.
-Calzaghe and Hopkins were the same size, size was not a factor in this fight as Calzaghe & hopkins were both at the time natural light heavyweights.
Hopkins has said himself that he was willing to move down for Froch, why not Calzaghe?
If Calzaghe had refused to move up who else would he have fought, a lhw? I dont think so.
Pavlik: Pavlik is a c level boxer
Further:
-Pavlik was a 4-1 favorite to beat hopkins
-Hopkins was 43 years old and coming off a loss to calzaghe, many people thought hopkins was way to old.
-Hopkins was 17 years older than Pavlik.
-Many people not only thought pavlik would win but he'd be the first person to KNOCK OUT the old man
-Hopkins put on a CLINIC on pavlik, something that has never happened to pavlik in his entire career.
Once you make him move up two divisions he loses his physical advantage and he becomes a c level lhw.
Further, I know you and everyone else doesn't really believe that the weight had anything to do with the outcome of the fight. Kelly was out-classed, plain & simple.
Nice try though!
