Why are there no gay boxers?

I've noticed on some other boxing forums out there you could talk about, there's a lot of ****phobia used in "smack talk". Even Hasim Rahman wasn't averse to using "gay" as a put-down (I take it you saw his studio bust-up with Lennox, right?)

Thankfully this forum has to be the most intelligent and reasoned boxing forum I've ever come across. Sure, I had a moan about the "leech" thing, but here people really wanna talk - and talk properly - about boxing.

But the question remains... why are there no gay boxers? Or known gay boxers? And if they were, what sort of reception would they get? And just why did Lennox get all those rumours?

How would they be received if they came out as gay or entered boxing as gay? I think it would depend on their talent level. If they are exceptionally talented, they would eventually be accepted. Imagine the guy that loses to an exceptionally talented gay fighter though? Hehe...

Hey, Plexmc, I'm not stalking you or anything, but you posted to this thread heavily inferring that I only created it to reach 100 posts. Frankly, that p***ed me off.

As you'd only just passed the 100 mark yourself, I decided to see what words of wisdom had made up your honoured membership, what nuggets of insight into the world of boxing had made you able to download the fights this site offers.

Here's what I found...

Of your total posts, nearly all of them are a single sentence or phrase, with a whopping THIRTY-TWO of them simply "I feel u on that". A DOZEN are "that's real talk", not to mention the eight "word up on that" occurences.

As I said, don't get me wrong, I'm no psycho - it's just that when I've been accused of misusing this forum I don't expect to hear it from someone who's placed himself in a position to watch fights by posting the same repetitive phrase over THIRTY TIMES. People, glass houses...


I AM looking forward to seeing those fights, though. But I can wait... I've been a member for weeks now. As a matter of fact, I was going to suggest the level be increased to something less easily obtainable. (Though after I've reached it, natch. )

There have been some funny replies in this thread - "if I ever saw a straight boxer getting slammed by a cakeboy I would definitely feel a little embarrassment for that fighter" for one - but also loads of ignorance and very little sense.

What amazes me are the knee-jerk reactions to this thread, and the fact that 90% of the people who reply seem to think it's not worth talking about, or it "sucks". Weird how it's got to five pages and has so many people who hate it bothering to join in.

Also curious how - as funny as it is - gay is being associated with "camp" or "effeminate". If that were the case then the most likely candidate is Mike Tyson.

But I'm amused by self-contradictory statements along the lines of "I don't care what sexuality someone has, it doesn't bother me, so don't talk about gays". If another minority wasn't represented in the sport questions would be asked, and I thought it was a curious happenstance in the sport, that's all. I'm sorry that 90% of you that spent time replying to this thread thought it was beneath you, but hey...
