The fight with Oscar could've gone both ways. It was close. Some say Oscar, some say Trinidad. I had it 115-114 for Oscar but it was close in my eyes.

And yes, Hopkins was at his peak when he met Trinidad but he was still the underdog going into that fight. His TKO was even called an upset.
trinidad has always been overrated, but i defienetly think it was a great name on hopkins resume,
even tho hopkins style being taylor made for trinidad and his size giving him an advantage

the only reason hopkins knocked out trinidad was because of an illegal move that the ref continuely ignored, pulling down felix's head, constantly pulling his head down and resting his bodyweight on it

and nobody here is saying hopkins wasn't/isn't great, just some people think he wouldn't be able to take the W with a prime toney

It was an indicator of how great Hopkins skills were at the time. It was an indicator of how hopkins sticks to a game plan and never loses focus throughout entire fights and that's something that should be considered when thinking about how Tony-Hopkins would have went.

ha! first time I've ever heard anyone say this. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the hard shots trinidad took the entire fight, not to mention the closing seconds of the round prior to the KO...

Plus the KO shot was a perfect shot square to the chin. No holding behind the back of the head.

Good point, but it works both ways when Toney was focused McCallum I, Barkley, Jirov he was a great fighter as well. In fact I would say Toney fights to the level of his opposition if he thinks you are a serious threat then he would come prepared.

The only thing illegal in that fight was when Trinidad elbowed Hopkins in the throat.

Can anyone here think of a time when Hopkins fought an opponent with a style similar to Toneys and vice versa?

I think Bernard could beat him... but easy is ridiculous.

Toney at his peak was very, very difficult to beat. Can't pick Hopkins over him. No way, no how.

im not saying the punches didn't have an effect
but it drains you, if your not a contortionist, pulling on your spine will gas you and leave you feeling a bit uneasy, hopkins wore him down to the point that he could get a ko only because of those head pulling and pushing down moments

esspecialy with trinidad being a robotic boxer that doesn't like to duck or move much

also outboxing him doesn't take a terribly skilled fighter, trinidad is/was pretty overrated tho a good win nonetheless
