To be fair, I don't know of HBO offering any money to Dawson to fight Cloud.

The article says so.

And if I remember right, I thought it was Cloud and his team who turned down that slot on the Dawson-Johnson undercard.

That was when the alternative was to fight Woods for the title. But the article says that HBO has recently asked Dawson to either fight Cloud next, or to at least have Cloud on the undercard of his next fight, and Dawson said no to both.

Dawson is not avoiding Cloud, he obviously prefers to fight Hopkins who's the bigger name and also the bigger threat.

Then why hasn't he said that he'll fight Cloud next if Hopkins doesn't agree to fight him (and Hopkins almost certainly won't agree to fight him); and why won't he even let Cloud fight on the undercard of his next fight???

What's Adamek got to do with this discussion? Good win, over a fighter still in his prime. Last one he's had.

Maidana isn't rated as highly as Marquez, but if Khan gives up his belt in order to avoid Maidana and fights Marquez instead, he'll get nothing but criticism in the forums. Cloud was Dawson's mandatory for more than a year, Dawson then gave up his belt in order not to fight him, which was fair enough as he fought Johnson, provided he had then fought Cloud after that. But after Cloud convincingly owned Woods, Dawson has no excuse to avoid him any more - and for him to say that he won't even let HBO put him on his undercard in order to build up a future fight, that just stinks. He obviously is scared, there's no two ways about it.

1. You guys criticize his lack of draw power. So when he goes after the most known fighters in his division which is TRULY the only way to make a name for himself, you say he's ducking everyone else who ARENT EVEN KNOWN. So in essence, according to you guys, he needs to raise his marketing stock, but CANNOT fight the biggest names in his division to do so.

2. Johnson, Tarver and Hopkins are STILL rated higher than Cloud, Pascal and Diaconu. Thats not a made of "fact", thats the truth. These guys are at the upper part of the LHW tree and Dawson as an up and comer went at the TOP. So what you're saying is that he WASNT supposed to fight the guys rated at the top? Do you understand how ridiculous that is? You are saying a fighter should not fight those considered the best!!!!

It's not Dawson's fault that the LHW division's best fighters are over 40. Dawson did what he SHOULD have done.

3. You mention that Cloud convincingly owned Woods as a reason why Dawson should fight him? ummmmm, before Cloud fought Woods, Woods was EMBARRASSED by Antonio Tarver. So by your logic, Dawson did the RIGHT thing in fighting Tarver since Tarver MORE tha convincingly defeated Woods. And what happened, Dawson pitched a shut out.

And you know Tarver had a clause so don't even bring that **** in here.

But you know what I like the most is that Dawson after the Johnson fight already said he wanted to the winner of Pascal/Diaconu if he doesn't get Bernard Hopkins (which he has every RIGHT to ask a fight with).

Don't make up BS excuses, reasons and claims regarding Dawson. Every choice he's made has served him better financially, resume and legacy wise more than Pascal, Cloud and Diaconu would have.

If you would have actually faced those 3 instead of Adamek, Johnson and Tarver, then you would be one of the ******est boxers today. Not only does Dawson now have a better resume because of that, he had more to bring to the table than any of those 3. Understand how boxing works.

Dawson has gotta be the most unfairly hated on fighter on BS IMO. He ***s up Cloud bad. Cloud is one of the most overhyped fighters I have ever seen, he would be lucky to jag more than 2 rounds. Hopkins is the only 175 pounder around right now that poses any kind of legitimate threat to Chad.

The Ring's rankings are generally good but in the case of Light Heavyweights, they're fixated with the past. Hopkins hasn't fought a credible Light Heavyweight for three years. Johnson and Tarver are clearly fading fast.

You obviously can't read. What I said was that giving up a belt in order to fight Johnson rather than his mandatory was okay, provided he then fought Cloud after that. I also pointed out that he has not said that he'll fight Cloud if he can't get a fight with Hopkins. Instead he's refused to fight Cloud at all or even to have him on his next undercard, which proves that he's running from Cloud.

Woods was extremely lethargic against Tarver, but fought close to his best against Cloud. The last time he fought that well, he beat Johnson.
