  • Big money fights? What has he done to earn big money fights? Got a decision over Barerra? Which was horrible. Does he not understand the only thing people think about when they hear Khan is his ass getting lit up. In my eyes he hasnt earned big money fights. Myabe he thinks he needs one because as soon as the big punchers come in he career is over. Its obvious his chin will not get better actually might be worse. Everyone knows once you have been chin checked in the fashion he has your chin keeps that crack in it and it just spreads with every punch. Please let him fight Juan Diaz so Diaz can get a Knockdown K.O...

    • Why is everyone acting like Maidana is something special? Khan shut out the guy that beat him. It of course depends who Khan fights instead, if he fights a better opponent in a bigger fight.....how can you criticise him?

Given that the first of those mandatories was against someone who no one rated in the top 50 at the weight, and who was weaker than any conceivable voluntary defence he could have had; and given that beating Maidana would answer all the questions about whether he has it in him to beat someone who can punch, and whether he has the guts to find out one way or the other; this excuse about two mandatories is very weak. If his first mandatory had been against a high risk opponent, you'd have a point, but it wasn't, it was against a journeyman. And the Khan-Maidana fight would certainly sell very well, precisely because of the fact that Maidana can punch and has just beaten Ortiz, who was massively hyped and who is very well known in the States. So he can't claim he's being forced to take a very low reward fight.

That said, I blame Roach and Warren for this. Khan has said recently that he'd be happy to fight Maidana and that it would be a good fight for him. But he needs to stand up to them for the sake of his credibility. Real boxing fans will lose all respect for him if he ducks this fight.

        • You can't be serious.

You just had a easy fight, now it's time to face the better fighters at 140.

          • Khan has earned the right to fight the big money fights. We as boxing fans need to understand these boxers work their asses off to get to where they are. They put their health, careers, and even lives on the line every time they step into the ring. If you are going to face a big puncher, get paid for it, or fight someone you will get paid good for. Maidana hasn't proven himself yet to face a Khan. Khan should duck him for more money elsewhere, then if Maidana proves him self and makes more of a name, they should fight. This way Khan and Maidana both get a good pay day. Khan could whoop his ass and put him out of the picture too. Both fighters should wait. I know we all hate waiting but money dictates the sport and there's nothing we can do about it. Bitching and whining gets us no where. On the other hand, this forum wouldn't be here if it weren't for that. lol

              That doesn't make a difference.

Just because Khan beat Kotelnik doesn't mean he instantly beats Maidana.

              Triangle theory

Maidana deserves his shot, he is his mandatory plus he is durable, applys pressure and has power.

Sounds like someone who laid Khan out.

It would erase those memories of the Prescott loss.

              It needs to happen.

              • Maidana is mandatory.

Khan had a sparring match with a c-level fighter, came out unscathed. If he vacates then he is ducking Maidana, period. He doesn't deserve a big payday till he dominates a top fighter or two.

Oh really, thats why he is hot property and favourite to win the super 6.

What is Khan favourite for? To beat ANOTHER 39 year old featherweight?

BTW who are the Coldplay loving, warbling, bed wetting mummies boys in your avatar?

It's Khan's team who are doing that by making clear that they're too scared of Maidana to let Khan fight him.

Remember that Warren said that the Prescott loss was not due to bad tactics, but purely due to bad matchmaking (translation: I was ****** to let Khan fight anyone who can punch, however limited they may be); and he said that he would never make the same mistake again.

Remember that Warren has also said recently that he wants Khan to fight a completely shot Castillo next, whom no one rates as a top 100 fighter at the weight any more.

And Maidana is rated in every credible top 10 at the weight (which most of the people Warren says he wants Khan to face instead are not), he has a huge punch (which most of them do not); and in his last fight, he knocked out Ortiz in a fight of the year candidate, and Ortiz was being heavily hyped by GBP as the next big thing. On the back of that performance, Khan-Maidana would sell very well indeed, so he can't use the excuse that there's no money in this fight; and he'll lose ALL credibility with most real boxing fans if he ducks him.

He can fight a voluntary against whomever he likes after that. There's no possible reason why that would be a problem, other than Warren's and Roach's fear that Khan would lose against Maidana. He can make just as much money fighting Maidana followed by someone else as he could by fighting them in the reverse order, provided he can beat Maidana. But to give up his belt just so that he doesn't have to face anyone with a big punch will cause his credibility to go to zero with all real boxing fans.

That's a ridiculous thing to say - have you never heard that styles make fights? Norton beat Ali, then Norton was knocked out in one round by Foreman, whom Ali then knocked out.

Khan has never beaten anyone with a decent punch, and if he wants to call himself a champion then he needs to have the guts to prove that he can do it.
