The initial talks happened in '02 but Hopkins already had a scheduled fight with Hakkar (he had to fight him).

He was the mandatory. And Showtime offered him a 3 fight contract - Hakkar, Simon and Calzaghe.

Well, Hopkins has his chance to actually redeem himself a little bit if they both win this week . The thing about it is: Beating prime Roy Jones and beating someone who beat a 35 y/o Roy Jones or actually beating a 41 y/o Roy Jones are very, very different things.

Im not an expert on calzaghes career but surely if he wasnt fighting his mandatories he would have be stripped of his title?? Your making it sound like he somehow avoided his mandatories, im sure he didnt

Calzaghe doesnt have the best cv in the world i agree, but its not the worst either and he was happy to sit in wales that was his problem.

So first of all after admitting you are not an expert on his career you start throwing around **** sure comments like 'Get over it' and 'He fought every live body'

Honestly I can say to you guys across the pond that there is as many doubters and detractors in England as there was fans of calzaghe, personally I always saw him as a beater of Euro bums and a ducker of top Americans

Even now his greatest victory over Mikel Kessler is looking like a total joke after what Ward did to the Dane.
