but he failed. he only tied the record of the great sven ottke who just did the same exact thing a couple years earlier. some accomplishment.

If Hopkins, you have to note, that his goal was to hold the middleweight belt for the longest succesive time.
Hopkins, even when it became difficult for him to make 160 anymore and he'd given up trying to win a close decision over Taylor, he skipped SMW altogether. Maybe he holds more stock in the original divisions, maybe he thought Tarver was an easier or better fight, who knows?

Hopkins had always wanted a rematch with RJJ.

So, to prove that he was better he fought Tarver.

Lol, how does beating Tarver, whom Jones already beat on his last leg prove Hopkins was 'better', when Roy already beat Hopkins and did so most of the fight with a broken hand?

He was the mandatory. And Showtime offered him a 3 fight contract - Hakkar, Simon and Calzaghe.

            He fought Hakkar.

Well, not as much better, but display to the boxing world that even though he lost to RJJ, that he could beat the opponents that had beaten him.

Well, Hopkins has his chance to actually redeem himself a little bit if they both win this week . The thing about it is: Beating prime Roy Jones and beating someone who beat a 35 y/o Roy Jones or actually beating a 41 y/o Roy Jones are very, very different things.

Like Coca Cola, there's nothing like the 'real thing'.

Why did you just Red K me for expressing my views factually on a boxing forum.

Even more so, you red k me rather than debate as every other fan of boxing does.

Are you on this forum to express your views or just red k people with out a valid reason.

As far as i can see he fought every live body at super
                      middle over the years,

I think him beating hopkins and jones has some people turning in their graves maybe, get over it

Calzaghe doesnt have the best cv in the world i agree, but its not the worst either and he was happy to sit in wales that was his problem.
So first of all after admitting you are not an expert on his career you start throwing around **** sure comments like 'Get over it' and 'He fought every live body'

Go away and learn some facts before shouting your clap trap off.

Great post and great thread, you have eloquently put into words everything that swam around in my head watching this frauds career pan out.

Honestly I can say to you guys across the pond that there is as many doubters and detractors in England as there was fans of calzaghe, personally I always saw him as a beater of Euro bums and a ducker of top Americans

Even now his greatest victory over Mikel Kessler is looking like a total joke after what Ward did to the Dane.
