Definitely, but I don't think he can just walk through Floyd's punches. Remember, speed is power. Cotto is a stronger puncher than Mayweather. But Floyd's speed plus his balance make him the more gifted and devastating puncher.

Like everyone always says, the shots that hurt the most are the ones you don't see. If Pacquiao only thinks offense, he'll get caught with something wicked.

why people want to compare the Marquez wins is beyond me. Marquez is clearly not the same fighter at 135+ and given the circumstances of the Mayweather/Marquez fight, shouldnt even be mentioned at all.

Anyone who studies the sport can tell you that at 140 and above, Pacquiao finishes Marquez off.

That's speculation. Not fact. Styles make fights and if you truly studied the sport you would know that.

Marquez is unbeaten at 135 and he looked pretty good there. He only has one fight above 140 so how do you know he wasn't the same fighter if you have no other fights at that weight to compare it too? Is it only because he lost to Mayweather in the way he did?

I finally rewatched Cotto-Pacquiao. Frankly it was too disappointing, as a Cotto fan, to watch it again, so I held off for a while.

Watching again, I realized Cotto was far more effective offensively than I remembered. He was hitting Pacquiao with flush punches all night. Pacquiao's only real defense was to stick his hands straight up. Not a lot of slipping, dodging, or anything really. He basically figured out Cotto could not hurt him, and walked straight through everything. In his career, and against Cotto, he's been able to do this because of his speed and his overall offense. His chin is incredible clearly, and it's going to be tough for anyone to hurt him.

However, this concerns me about his chances in a Mayweather fight. Mayweather is not looking for a KO like most fighters, so whether Pac can take his punch will not matter as much. The point is, that Mayweather will probably be landing on Pacquiao, a lot. Mayweather landed 59% against Marquez, while Pacquiao landed only 23% on Marquez.

The question is whether you think Pacquiao can land enough on Mayweather, even though he's going to get hit a lot against Floyd. That, or you're hoping for a KO.

Manny is deceptively defensive. He's very good at slipping things while attacking. He took 2-3 good shots in that fight but everything else wasn't anything special.

He fights differently in every fight. In the Oscar fight he never stopped moving and pretty much avoided everything.

think of it this way, would you rather have perfect defense or perfect offense? Manny chose offense. Mayweather has better defense but in doing so he doesn't throw any combinations and has a very low punch out put since most of the time he is spent covering up.

It's basically an offensive master vs a defensive master. Pacquiao is great at hitting oponents, he hits them when they have no idea when its coming. Mayweather is very good on the other hand at seeing punches coming and avoiding them.

When Manny returned to the Philippines he mentioned that he was in huge pain after the fight (particularly his damaged ear). Even though he ran through Cotto's shots, there's no doubt that he hated getting punished in that manner. This might make Manny prepare differently for future welterweights.
