One was seen as much more competitive then the other. Cotto vs. Pacquiao was suppose to outsell Mayweather vs. JMM.

Aprt from Oscar VS his opponents and Mayweather VS mARQUEZ, NO ONE OUTSIDE OF THE HEAVYWEIGHT HAS SOLD MORE THAN 1MIL.

1.25 isn't great, but then again anything over 1 mil is good.

If Marquez had sooo many mexican fans why was his last PPV fight vs Pac in 2008 and only did 400K. and Last year Marquez/Casamayor was the worst with 100k buys.......why all of a sudden when he fights Mayweather he has this enormous fan base?..

both were promoted via the same old hbo blueprint. the differences were in the way that they were billed. cotto v pacquiao was billed as the fight of year, two stars going head to head in a war, the protagonist moving up in weight to conquer his biggest foe yet. mayweather v marquez was more like "the return of mayweather"; marquez was but a subplot.

and even so, more interest was shown in mayweather v marquez from third party companies. which more or less reinforces my assertion that mayweather is the bigger draw. he has what pacquiao lacks in the promotional field: a personality, and will thus always garner more interest unless pacquiao goes and beats him or something.

You are so in love with MAyweather you just cant see the truth. You dont want to see it and you dont want to hear it, but its right there in front of your face.

Pacman / Cotto had a bigger draw because they will go into a ring and fight. Neither will duck and run during a fight. Mayweather is infamous for that. Mayweather is a BORING FIGHTER. If he fights Pacman it will, PAcman will have to run probably a marathon around that ring in order to catch Mayweather.

You should have seen what most expected from Numero Uno, about 400-600K. I expected 600K because the match up wasn't seen as competitive. Instead everyone was surprised by 1.1M. I said Fire Power will do 1.2Mill+ and I made a thread on it, I expected that from the more competitive match up.

Yes but it was only you and a few rabid ******s who expect that to exceed 1mill.

Yeah, years ago! And that was down to Oscar. Before that, how well was Floyd selling? Things change, man. Are you saying Mayweather could ever sell that kind of amount again? He won't, unless of course it's with Pacquiao.

You can't hang onto past glories, especially when you weren't even the main draw. You have to look at now, not years ago, and consider how high Pacquiao's star has risen, especially since Nov. 14.

The ONLY Pacquiao fans I've seen that don't want it to happen are those who say Floyd doesn't even deserve a chance to fight Pacquiao. (Most of them are just winding you guys up, actually). They want to see Mayweather sweat, see him get off his high horse for once and get real. They think Mosley deserves a fight more. I see nothing wrong with what they are saying, actually.

Honestly, 300K is good numbers. Thing is, Pacquiao, Mayweather are in that level where most would expect 800K+ out of them, so 1M+ is indeed great.

When you're parading around a forum making countless threads about how one event will fail in comparison to the other, it kinda makes you look as if you don't know what you're talking about in the end (which in their case is a normality).

Predicting fights is one thing. Trying to convince people a PPV will fail because you think you're that in depth with the business is a whole other story.

HBO Sports reported today that one million pay-per-view buys were generated from last Saturday’s welterweight fight between Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. The one million buy total represents the highest performing boxing pay-per-view event in 2009 and generated $52 million in pay-per-view revenue. The million buys include 525,000 from cable homes and 475,000 from satellite homes. It is only the fifth time in boxing pay-per-view history that a non-heavyweight event has attained the one million buy mark.

“I am truly humbled by the numbers, and I appreciate all of the sports fans who either came to the fight or bought it on pay-per-view,” said Mayweather. “It felt great to be back in the ring and next time I will be even better.”
