Floyd saying he'll fight Manny means nothing. Signing a contract to fight him is when he proves he's serious. Right now the ball is in the court of HBO and the promoters to put together a deal that both fighters will sign on.

By that argument, then Pac should have KO'd Larios?

          .
Wait. Don't you forego a belt if you fight for a belt in another class?

The hate for mayweather just drives this stuff but to each his own. Now ive actually been hearing manny fans saying he should fight foreman @154. Why foreman? Because hes the easiest belt holder in the division. Why not fight the best in the division if he wants to fight at 154. Floyd mayweather is just held to different standards because people hate him.
Then, let us play by your views. Take away the common names. Name a fighter in Pbf's resume that is comparable to the barrera (1st fight) or even a slightly past prime morales. After the Castillo fight, Pbf's choice of opposition is getting less risky over time. While pac is upping his opposition over time. Mayweather is held to a different standards because he constantly talks about them. Try telling people you are greater than SRR and they will be disappointed if you do no deliver. Only the hatton fight did he prove that he can walk the talk. The rest are mostly just talk. If you question the talks of a pac-foreman, then you should question talks of pbf-alvarez or pbf-hatII.

Pac could do nothing or fight someone else and his legacy would still be cemented as one of the greatest fighters ever......Floyd has fallen way, way behind him in that regard and needs some great performances against legit threats like Pac for example to catch up

Or, simply, by convincingly beating Pacquiao.

No. That is also true for the alphabet belts.

It wouldn't be enough to surpass him in terms of ATG status because that is more based on the strength of your resume and over all body of work.....it would be like saying some up and comer can blast Pac out and rank higher than him in terms of ATG status......for an ordinary fighter Floyd's resume is good but if he is running for ATG status its very weak......he needs more wins against good fighters he wasn't favored to beat.

genaro hernandez undefeated at 130 ten title defenses when he lost to floyd.

Diego Corrales 33-0 with 30 kos ranked p4p #5 at the time he is tkoed by floyd

Jose Luis castillo considered the best at 135 defeated by floyd in back to back fights.

now lets look at pac after beating barerra in 2003 he goes on to lose to morales the first time who hadn't won a title in 2 years.

lost to morales and req a return fight at 130 when erik was coming off a loss to zahir rahem.

at the time pac lost to morales and rematched him he was not the best fighter at 130. he finally fights marquez after fighting erik for a third time who couldn't make weight....fights barrera coming off a loss to marquez...goes life and death with marquez and then this is where it gets really good.
