I'm trying to understand the timing here.

1: Clottey is in camp.
2: The fight gets cancelled
3: Clottey sends his trainer home.
4: 5 days later an offer from Williams for 650K is on the table.

Based on that Clottey says he doesn't have enough time to train because there's only 5 weeks untill the fight? Surely that cannot be his primary excuse or is something missing in the timeline?

Yes! U forgot to mention 5. his HEART left to Africa with his trainer and there are no more return flights until after the 5th of Dec.
