Pavlik the smaller man coming up in weight to fight him? PAVLIK IS A MIDDLEWEIGHT! HOPKINS IN HIS PRIME WAS HIS BEST AT MIDDLEWEIGHT! He gained age and is older and not as fast as he use to be, how does that favor him? And he beat Calzaghe IMO landing the more meaningful shots. Not to mention he beat Winky, Oscar, Trinidad who like was stated several times before, both their best weight classes are 154, so Hopkins beating them when his best weight class was 160 is a such a bad accomplishment? He wrecked Tarver who was alight heavyweight AT light heavyweight. Calzhages punk ass wouldn't even fight him in his prime, he rather fight bums in europe until 20 years later when Hopkins & Jones were past their primes. He never ducked anybody. He fought everybody he could and he cashing in right now for the long run geting all the big money fights now at 43. Dumbass thread. Hopkins is a top 75 greatest of all time and thats not even on talents. Thats hard work on his skills mastering the sport.
um, it can't be that dumb of a thread if the majority feel he's overrated...

haha really? Thats why he pushed him? Really?. haha thats fn great! Not because they were about to fight the next night or anything and he couldn't hit him in the face as much as he wanted to then. Your a funny one.

Winky's best weight class was 154 and Hopkins fought him at 170. Oscar and Tito's best weight was 147

Hopkins "negotiated" his way out of several big fights including Calzaghe, Jones and Toney in his prime.

But with no reason what so ever. All those excuses are lame. So B-Hop couldn't beat Roy Jones in his prime. Who could? Unifying the division and becoming the undisputed champ beating everybody thrown in front of him makes him overrated? 20 defenses is overrated? Your acting like all these people he fought were chumps or didn't deserve to be in the ring with him. I'm not saying he fought heavy competition night in and night out. But seriously, who else did you want him to defend against? What middleweight didin't he take to school during that 20 defense reign that he could have? He was the undisputed champ, how could he be considered overrated? Do you all think Winkys overrated because the super middleweight division is one of the greatest most stacked divisions either. So yeah it is a dumb thread calling an undisputed champion who's still schooling the new school big names at 43 years old is pretty freakin dumb.

                    • How people can, on the one hand praise Hagler and hate Hopkins for fighting smaller fighters is incredible.

Hopkins beat Trinidad, when Trinidad still was in his prime, had never lost, and looked fantastic in his last fights before. And was ranked very high pound for pound.

Hopkins stopped Oscar, and showed that he could win without using his size and strenght, but using his boxing skills and still incredible speed at 39. And Hopkins weight in at 156 pounds.

Hopkins moved up and beat Tarver at 41, winning almost every round and looked really good against another pound for pound top 10 fighter. And lets remember, like Tarver said: No excuse tonight ! Not Hopkins fault if Tarver had weight problem.

Made comeback after 1 years layoff at age 42 against Wright, who was ranked at the top pound for pound when they fought (around2-3). And before the fight nobody talked about if Wright was past his best since, he looked very good in his fight against Quarety before. Throwing more the 1000 punches.

Hopkins could probably not make 160 at 42 anymore, like many fighter can move back down once they have moved up. But still made the fight not at 175, where he had moved up to but to 170 to suit Wright better. And cant remember hearing Wright talking about having weight problem BEFORE the fight.

Hopkins landed the harder and better punches, and looked fresher at the end of the fight. And that at age 42. Some people talk about that Wright landed 20 more punches, perhaps but, Hopkins landed much, much more power punches then Wright. Sloppy fight perhaps, but a very good win for Hopkins.

Lost a very close fight against a natural super middleweight Calzaghe at 43, after flooring Joe in the first and looking good in many of the earlie rounds. And Calzaghe was at the time ranked around the top pound for pound, and was still in his prime, or at least very, very close. Hopkins did the best he could at 43, having lost some speed, stamina, and his work rate had dropped considerble, compaire to his prime ( around 96-02).

Beat the crap out of Pavlik last October, winning every round using his boxing skills and still great footwork. Against a unbeaten prime fighter, who was coming of two wins against Taylor.

Fact is Hopkins has recorded most of his big wins after his prime, not many fighter can do that. Or has done it for the matter.

Hopkins may not be as fun to watch as Hagler, but still deserve credit for finding a way to win, even old past his best, against good fighter.
