Wardley is now in a no-lose situation. He's got an incredible backstory cooked into his current run, he's beaten guys who are just plain better than he is but he continuously finds a way (or a ref, POV depending), he's got real power and real heart, is likeable, and now is set to fight one of the greatest men to ever box. When he loses to Usyk, and he will, it won't matter. He's supposed to. He'll get paid and get the experience. He's basically a real life Rocky Balboa with better enunciation.👍 2Comment

In the sense of fighting bigger guys with what is seemingly a disadvantage in overall skills, Wardley is such a great over-acheiver with heart, will, and some serious power. I'm a big fan of him and will be going forward!👍 1Comment

Not only did Parker get stopped, but he also got outboxed in certain sequences. And to think some thought he had a chance against Usyk...👍 2Comment

Was an early stoppage, but by no means the worst I've seen (That was probably Rolly's one over Barroso).

At the time I was a bit pi55ed off, but now after watching it again and taking into full account how he stumbled to his corner at the end of the previous round, maybe it wasn't the worst. He knew Howard Foster was ref and knows that he ain't any Steve Smoger.

Parker was getting pummelled and was near out on his feet - I would have given him a few more seconds, though you can't keep taking shots like that (after what happened at the end of the previous round) and not throw back. Parker (and Wardley) is a warrior, and maybe that early stoppage will give save him from retirement and keep him in the game (maybe even a rematch).👍 2Comment

I agree with you. Ref has to respond to what is happening in that ring. If Parker was getting tagged and not trying to answer or move with confidence, the ref first obligation is to protect the long term health of the boxers. On a scale of 1-10 of bad stoppages that was a 6 - there's been worse but it was pretty bad - that said, the ref has to take into account Parker's health and safety and with 6 seconds to go in the round, and with Parker on the ropes and not answering, just 2/3 more blows could see Parker in hospital. It might be the case that the ref was unduly affected by what Wardley had done in previous fights especially against Clarke

Great win for Wardley. Great, career enhancing win.👍 1Comment
