Luis Ortiz didn't find Wilder more intimidating than AJ.

Ortiz turned down $7miilion to fight AJ and fought Wilder for 500k

Joshua can pass for an all American athlete

Deontay can pass for a street guy

Funny how Tyson knocking out cans made him fearsome and the words "prime tyson" being over used, but Wilder or these other modern era fighters knocking out 20 cans won't get the same hype and instead dissed

The highlight reel KOs, come from behind KOs, etc. Sure the resume is weak...we can argue how good (or old) Ortiz was but Wilder was also getting outboxed by guys who were on the extreme fringe of contender status (Washington, Spilzka, etc).

I was no fan of Wilder but I do acknowledge that he had some freakish power. Even his opponents have acknowledged that.

              against top 10 ring opponents

              tyson-53% 8 out of 15

              wilder-25% 2 out of 8

tyson was clearly better so like i said marketing and propaganda if it could get you to believe they were anywhere near the same level, not to mention tyson ko'd spinks who was the lineal champ at the time. wilder never beat any of the top guys

yeah just ask malik scott. that doesnt give you any pause? knowing guys clearly took dives against him not to mention almost everyone he fought was under the pbc banner, when he left pbc he couldnt do diddly squat. they were all part of the hype train, maybe some of them even believed it. i can imagine if you get ko'd saying wow he hits super hard is a part of saving face

Wilder's one punch KO power was pretty intimidating the way he was knocking guys out.

what kind of guys would that be? look at joshua vs ngannau. joshua must be the biggest puncher in boxing history...or he was fighting a guy he knew he could unleash on with impunity. same thing with the scrubs wilder was fighting. its like a minor leauge baseball player who hit 100 home runs in a season. yeah he could have potential...then he goes to the big leagues and hits 2. i think its safe to say his power didnt really translate right? we know wilders power did not translate but you still have people looking at his minor league numbers which lets be honest thats what he was essentially fighting with those scrubs instead of his big league numbers
