I think the situation with expensive PPVs is starting to get exhausting. Boxing is a sport, but it has become too commercialized, with many promoters prioritizing profit over the quality of the fights. If giants like Netflix or Amazon start broadcasting boxing, it could be a real breakthrough and change the whole approach to broadcasting. At the same time, fights with people like Jake Paul are more entertainment than real sport, and I'm not sure they're helping to promote boxing as a legitimate sport.

That's half the people who tune in to watch the Super Bowl. That's an impressive stat. Netflix might be on to something. This was a good card - meaning the undercard. I'd tune in again to watch two great undercard matches, along with a challenger looking to beat Paul.

I'd be rooting for the Challenger btw

That's a remarkable level of penetration into the public consciousness. For all Tyson's faults, he is remarkably famous; as the article says, he is the most famous living boxer. It's a shame, then, that such a success in terms of viewship and buzz was a circus of a main event. Great exposure for Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano and, more generally, for women's boxing.

It would be very interesting if Netflix were to try and regularly do a Friday night event. Imagine what they could do with Inoue.
Similar experiences, my nephew was talking about it, coworkers who know nothing about boxing planned their evening around it, even my buddies 10 year old son asked his dad if he could stay up to watch it.

They were all texting me during the card about the Barrios/Ramos and Serrano/Taylor fights. Netflix has to be elated at the exposure they got from the event.

And you're right about Tyson, he's an icon.

Yeah having PPV on top of being on an online service is a good way to keep your product obscure.

Boxing being on Netflix globally as part of a regular subscription would be probably the most exposure the sport could get today.

If they had put this on PPV, it would’ve done lukewarm at best.

Where was the financial gain going to come? From boxing fans? Or Jake Paul fans (tweeners and teenagers who don’t have money to just casually drop $70-$80 on an event but rather just pirate it).

Paul smartly went to Netflix and fleeced them. $40 million and $20 million for Tyson…without taking into consideration all the other fighters on the undercard and Katie and Amanda who both got probably $2 million a piece.

This was a huge opportunity for Netflix to advertise their platform and new series.

Good Lord…everyone was there. Shaq, Jerry, Holyfield, Lennox, Rosie Perez, Mauro, Jones Jr., Andre Ward, Claressa Shields…who else did I miss?

I still think Paul’s first loss is going to be via body shot.
First loss? Paul already lost to the great Tommy Fury.

Now that’s what I call the entrepreneurial spirit. For the exception of the Main Event; It was not a bad card at atl.

Both Barrios, Ramos, Taylor and Serrano all put on crowd-pleasing performances. People are saying that Jake carried Tyson.

If that’s true then that is for dumb MFers who DKSAB. Did Mike carry Larry Holmes? Did Oscar De La Hoya carry JCC, Sr? Did Holmes carry Ali? The answer is no.

The truth is Jake Paul was afraid of getting his ass whupped. Which was the reason why he fought like he did against a 58 year old Mike Tyson.

I’ll say it again, Netflix just showed that Haymon and Arum would do well to seek deals with Netflix. Especially if it kills the ppv model. American boxing on Netflix, Amazon, and Discovery would be a total game changer for boxing in the USA

If Netflix can now show actual legitimate boxing cards that would be a good thing for the sport imo. Its a huge platform.
