Will this guy fight Morrell or Benavidez? I doubt it. Those are clearly huge step ups, at least on paper.

Did Berlanga's stock rise? A little bit, but no where near what pundits are making it out to be. Let's see his next few fights before deciding Berlanga belongs in the top 4 of the division.

If Berlanga is fighting in Puerto Rico, I don't see the Plant (PBC) or Munguia (TR/GBP) fights happening unless Turki is involved with some Riyadh Season collaboration.

Pacheco would be a good fight, see how Diego does against the guy who went 12 with Canelo. Not sure if McCumby is with PBC but they would be an interesting bout as well.

More realistically, I see them dusting off Devryenchenko or Sulecki so they can lose valiantly without risk of exposing Berlanga's deficiencies.

Great post. Berlanga vs Devryenchenko is a FOTY type of fight but Sulecki is a great matchup for Berlanga too. It’s absolute madness that the sport is so divided because Berlanga vs Munguia has war written all over it and both guys fought Canelo. As long as they stay active I’m happy, it’s annoying that certain fighters like Caleb Plant only fights one time year.

Step up from what?....surely not from canelo. He'll definitely be far more competitive with both of those guys than he was with canelo. That's a fact. David doesn't have close to the power or canelo nor the chin. I could actually see Edgar hurting David who likes to lunge all over the place. David has average power at best. Trevor mcCumby hurt Caleb plant more than he did

Huge step up should be all about in terms of taking high risk with low reward. Only fools turn down high reward fights. Why, because all you really have to do is show up, quit on your stool halfway into the fight, pretend you broke your hands, run all night, in other words, just go after the money...
                You’re right, BUT…

I thought Berlanga was going to get utterly demolished (Pacquiao-Hatton, Mayweather-Gatti style) or that Berlanga was just going to freeze up under the lights.

Given his limited skill set, he actually tried, which is a lot more than people thought he was going to achieve.

He didn’t do ANY of the bold. He actually tried.

Charlo’s stock keeps plummeting with every new Canelo fight.

It's not a "huge step up" fight like this article claims. He took the fight because of the "high reward" component in it. Will he take Benavidez or Morrell? Nah. You're impressed because you have this mythical impression of the Mexican being invincible, super human , un-ageing, can't possibly lose a step.

Guys like Morrell and Benavidez, when they were at 168, would’ve annihilated Edgar. He’ll probably get a fight with Plant in the near future…and lose.
I swear Cuban Guy... Everyone is so "upset" over poor Devin and how Ryan tested hot, meanwhile? we have guys, like Haney, and Berlanga who are rehydrating to ridiculous weights... I mean how can the boxing people let this happen?! For Berlanga to come in that big. That is not fair... No wonder he did not get sparked! I love Puerto Rican fighters... as I grew up in East Harlem, but I ahve no respect for this kid... He is none to bright, has no exceptional ability and apparently only does not cheat because there is no rule against coming in at a weight that is 20 pounds over your opponent.
