Who would have thought volleyball, for instance, would be resurrected and would become regular on tv or live streaming?
Number of boxing fans neither grow nor shrink. They watch PPVs by any means or non-PPVs equally. Of course there are biases in the media and the way they cover it. Loma vs Haney, for example, is the same size as any PPV card. It's not smaller or bigger to a boxing fan. That's why PPV numbers can't be taken seriously. They're all manufactured and exaggerated. The Garcia vs Haney was expected to do 2 million PPV buys due to the endless controversies from day one to post fight. Yet no official number got associated with it.

"Now, if a journalist writes or says something a publicist or promoter doesn't like, they're denied open access to an event that desperately needs all the attention it can get."

That's why it's no surprise why some in the media would rather do fake news than say the truth. Fat Dan, for example, had no PPV figures in the Garcia/Haney fight, yet readily came up with one in the Tank/Martin fight. How does that even make sense? Every time Ryin Garcia came out -- did or say anything, it went viral in the media. How much more publicity good or bad promoters or fighters have to do to promote a fight? Yet Fat Dan basically says Tank/Martin did better than the Garcia/Haney fight? See how fkd-up this sport is? It's full of liars. They should not come up with any number at all, and fans shouldn't even care at all. How many times do they have to say most people would rather watch fights for free? You'd be lucky to get 100K buys these days, and such numbers are impossible to attain.

Showtime's Espinoza eventually got sick and tired of people asking about the PPV numbers, and announced they're no longer releasing any. And that was years ago when the use of cable was still widespread. But dishonest people in the media still had to come up with their manufactured and exaggerated figures.

Dana Whyte even sued Espinoza for allegedly lying about the numbers. He was conditioned to believe the 1 mil PPVs regularly released in boxing. Apparently, he had distribution rights in the McGregor/Mayweather fight and questioned why only few were buying. Haha... He's now skeptical of every PPV number boxing comes up with. He knows how hard it is to sell PPVs.

I'm trying to figure out why this stuff matters for certain fans? Bud really bothers certain parts of the fanbase and I'm not entirely certain why...

As for the Saudis, it's called "sports washing", they could care less if it makes money.

He wasn't available for TC to fight, so Madrimov it was. I'm not interested in any of those catchweight match-ups. Crawford needs to stay at 154 and try to become Undisputed: Ortiz/Bohachuk, Tszyu/Murtazaliev, and maybe Ennis.

Crawford is an old man already. He can fight anyone of those dudes for the same small purse he has been fighting for or convince Turki to stop being a jackass and make the fight with Canelo so Crawford can retire. He is not gonna go for undisputed at 154, he doesn't have that much time left at one fight per year.

But no, Crawford is a moron. Instead of thinking things through and realizing he doesn't have many big money opportunities left he comes out today and talks **** about Canelo. Crawford has been fking himself his entire career and the fool still hasn't learned.. It's sad, but oh well... He had Canelo in his finger tips and dumbass Turki and himself ****ed it up... They literally couldn't wait 40 days to talk to Canelo..

Honestly the era of pay-per-view is dead. No one wants to watch pay-per-view unless it's a household name and a very demanded fight. No one knew barely who the main event Fighters were. Especially Madrimov

It must be nice to be so rich that losing $10million is no big deal. But still, my dad once told me that rich people stay rich by acting like they're broke. I'm sure Turki was willing to take the gamble because he thought he'd be able to make Crawford vs Canelo for a mountain of cash revenue. But Bud squeaking by Madrimov and now Canelo wanting his ass kissed by Turki may well kill this fight's chances.

No, that's never been the point. C'mon guy. The Saudis literally make 10 million every 15 minutes. The rich people your dad is talking about are chumps in comparison. The Saudis play in a completely different league, and for totally different stakes. This was always about sports washing and politics. It was never about making a few million here and there.
