100% sympathy for Haney over Garcia cheating. But that's where it stops. Article seems to imply that because Haney got big money for the Garcia fight, he should get a similar amount for all fights? Like we should feel bad because a champ is expected to face a top contender without getting an 8 figure payday.

It doesn't seem an insult at all to be paid 1.6M when you're not a draw and your opponent's not a draw. Purse bids reveal the truth, if the fight was worth more, there would've been bids to back that up.

Martin beat Garcia, also beat Teo in the eyes of a lot of people. It seems like he's too much risk. Let's be honest, Garcia didn't earn the shot at Haney, but Haney wanted a big payday for a fight he was a big favourite in, and he got his wish. So now Haney got the big payday for the cherry-pick (gone wrong) he should fight the top contender.

Same here. Haney is dedicated to his craft, trains hard, doesn't pollute his body (as far as we know), and respects the sport from that perspective.

Drop the WBC belt and fight Teofimo Lopez! That should get you at least $5 Million in guarantee, and a cut of PPV! Don’t sit down, MAN UP!!!

Why isn't more sympathy illicited towards Haney?

When Margarito cheated with Cotto people were sympathetic. There was no question about it. Not like with Haney and there's a reason for that. Cotto was perceived as a stand-up guy because of the way he handled himself.

Haney lost that fight, it's unfortunate they were some hijinks involved, but he's not undefeated. He knew he was taking the fight under conditions that were sketchy but he wanted to take that fight.

The weight was a factor, probably more than the steroids... And perhaps the biggest factor to the loss, was how he underestimated Ryan. Haney is responsible for this spectacular meltdown as much as Ryan for cheating.

I think Haney's father creates a lot of problems for him. He really has to deal with this situation as a stand-up guy. Do what Cotto did, rematch the cheater and show your better.

              Haney needs to fight on.

Work on the things that Ryan exposed. Take time away to fully heal from the cheating.

Haney was on a real roll and it seems unfair that the obstacle in front of him was found to have illegal substances in him , the weight is not the problem , Haney was paid to take that .Haney is already a rich kid and deservedly so in this brutal and dangerous sport, but it's simply , take the lower purse and get back to wining ways and bigger purses or retire , having done lots, that many only dream of and count your money.

He'll come back and fight some more cherries and decide if he wants to cash out vs the real hitters like Teo, Tank, Pitbull, and Shakur

Id say becaus Margarito's cheating probably played a bigger role in that fight. And Haney doesn't get the same respect as Cotto because his resume is pathetic. This whole new generation outside of a few are the most overrated champions ever. I'm not saying they're trash, but they talk all this s*** and really aren't as good as they claim. They come in and make good money which is what counts. But they're resume vs older generations of fighters who actually fought the best is inferior.
