Groves was actually getting the better of it before getting splattered. I don't think Froch ever wanted any parts of Degale, that's certainly the impression I got. He always seem to distance himself from him when the two were mentioned as a potential fight.

My recollection is that Bute was incredibly highly regarded. He chose to sit out the 'Super six' but a lot of 'boxing experts' were convinced he was top man at 168. After Froch basically tore him to pieces I remember both Ward & Dirrell were just laughing, saying 'you thought you were too good for us Lucien'. Bute was the ultimate hype-job but, fair play, it took Froch to prove that. I think Froch had a load of great wins v Pascal, v Taylor, v Bute & v Groves. Probably the best, IMO, was Taylor. He was being owned, outclassed by Jermain & he just kept coming & pulled out a savage KO victory. That night ended Jermain Taylor, he just was never the same, & Jermain was an exceptional boxer.

Nobody had beat Abraham convincingly up to that point
Andrade, Berrio and Bika are definitely Bute's best wins. Johnson was shot to pieces and meant nothing. Miranda and Magee are better than that win. But those 3 although not the greatest, they were definitely good world class fighters.

You’re trying to convince me that based on those two levels of opposition l, and Ward who later on fought the prime Krusher version of Kovalev, shamelessly ducked bute? Yeahhhh ok.
Ward also ducked the fight and claimed he needed to fight a Froch or a Kessler. 1 day later it's revealed that Bute and Froch have a 2 fight deal only for Ward to turn around and ask why he was fighting him. Well, Ward said a day before he had to otherwise he wouldn't fight him. Just another day in the Ward bullshlt department to go alongside all the other bullshlt he came out with.dannnnn likes this.

As for the catch weight... Golovkin said he was the bigger seller (True) and wanted the bigger cut. Ward said he wanted 50/50. Golovkin said if he wanted half the money even though he didn't generate half the revenue, he wanted something his way. That's when he said the catchweight. Ward refused. Golovkin said fine, i'll take the bigger cut and we'll fight at 168. Ward refused that offer too.

Yeah, shame there wasn't a rematch. But Pascal went to LH whereas Froch made SM easily. But hey, at least we still have that first fight.joe strong likes this.

Had he entered the Super 6 tourney on Showtime, he definitely would have got exposed sooner. That’s why he ran from the tournament.
