Totally agree with this statement. Although I never rated Haney as high as a lot of ppl had him and am no fan of his dad or his own wannabe tough guy act (be yourself, we can all smell a fake). I've always considered him a weight bully, a guy who drains himself to an incredibly unhealthy level to have a distinct size/reach & weight advantage. I thought his defense was suspect because it's easy to pull back on guys and avoid punches when ur opponents can't reach you at the end of ur jab and everytime someone was able to get in range he'd hold and hug, not to mention the careful matchmaking to avoid quick fast punchers or anyone in their prime. I thought he was still going be good enough to beat R.G. but I didn't think it was the mismatch everyone else did towards the end and was happy to see R.G. win. All that said I don't think Haneys career is over, he just had a bad, bad night at the office. Hopefully this makes him realize cutting so much water weight is a problem because organs don't rehydrate as quickly as muscles and when ur brain, liver or kidneys don't have enough fluid to function or cushion impacts (perfect example, Ryan's weird shell, haney was able to throw his hardest punches at his ribs/kidneys and had virtually no effect, whereas from the very 1st left hook haneys legs where gone). Haney weight draining tactics came back to bite him in the ass (or left hook him in the face) because he was finally fighting someone his own size and age (with very fast hands and power and understands angles). I'd be interested to see Haney move up to 147~154 so he's not so drained then maybe his punches will have more pop and he won't be as slow, but I don't think he should be thinking about Boots but someone ranked between 8th-15th, test out the waters before diving into the deepend.

It's funny how some people act like Haney died - he lost a fight and is still champion. Boxing is a sport. You can't win them all or even perform every fight. I said the same with Joshua lost a few fights and everyone said he should retire - if you are fighting top guys you will lose at some point.

Haney was 3-3 with Ryan before this fight. The result was only a shock because Ryan had been acting such a fool beforehand. I def think Haney had got over confident too. Had started to believe his own hype the way he was talking

Both his reaction time and reflexes were incredibly slower against Garcia. There is no way that Ryan Garcia’s big ass should have been able to touch him up like that.
stick a fork in him, hes toast, hes the haney hamburger from now on

he needs to go back to 135 where hes the massive big bad dog, he thought he was moving up to get his man strength but he only ended up getting his womens strength

To Hawaii for a bit to chill then Rolly tuneup then Garcia rematch. Sandor Martin match would be the biggest snoozer.

It's one loss, it's not the end of the world. Fighters lose.

            I'm sure he'll bounce back.

Some good thoughts in this thread. Bravo!!! As was stated, Haney didn't die in the ring but he did get a hell of a wake-up call. Beating older opponents is of-times expected, but that shouldn't cause an exploded head. Haney was riding very high based on his last four wins and that's not enough to lay claim to greatness. Greatness would have pulled him through the fight with Garcia, but he came up short.

Haney needs to go back to the drawing board and really learn what\how GREAT fighters overcome difficulties and apply those techniques to his game.

The same can be said for Garcia - His habit of sporadically fighting during a match is only going to carry him so far. Eventually he will be taken into deep, dark waters by an opponent and that's where we'll learn more about him and the type of fighter he is. Right now he's got a good win, but what's next???

Haney is a big kid, if he can settle down, weigh down on his shots more, learn to develop his already elite level jab... working in angles to set up shots off the jab he may get somewhere. He actually does have a decent chin, He took great shots from Garcia. I think he can put himself in play again, provided he can hurt opponents at 147.
The problem with him moving up is that he is not a ****er as it is and these bigger dudes hit harder. He has talent but was overrated IMHO. Garcia exposed his flaws. Shyte happens!

Haney is still a top fighter. He can face his Mando that is not a hard puncher but difficult to look against or he can try to unify. He took a beating so he will be on the shelf for a while.

Ryan says that he can't weigh in under 143 pounds, therefore he definitely is a welterweight.
I don't know how well he'll do against the top rated fighters at 147, but I'd definitely like to see him fight them.
Haney is a damn good fighter, but some how he thought that he was Tank for this fight, and he found out that he's not.
He's lucky that he wasn't knocked out in the 7th round of his fight against Ryan, he can than the referee for his allowing him to hold.
That said I believe that Matias, and Teofimo would both knock him out if they ever fight, because of his suspect chin.
He stands a better chance of beating Cruz, by using all of his physical advantages to pile up points, and earn a unanimous decision.

Don't really think Ryan exposed anything. Everyone already knew he had no power and a suspect chin and that he likes to be the larger man, and that he's a defensive fighter. Don't see why a loss changes much for him?
