Comments Thread For: Ford Beats Kholmatov With Dramatic Last-Second TKO

Not to take anything away from Ford who was impressive and showed a lot of grit, but I wonder if Kholmatov could have survived to the final bell, it was razor thin. -
You know how many clean punches can be landed on a defenseless man in 7 seconds? That stoppage was nuts. I don't know why refs don't give standing 8 counts if a fighter gets hurt in the last 10 seconds. It lets him go to the decision at least. Sure, Kholmatov would have not survived any more time if it wasn't the end of the fight, but it was. I don't see how it's called off with 7 seconds left and Kholmatov was ahead on the cards.

First of all.... great fight!! Props to both guys.... rematch! Regarding the standing 8 count..... I am 100% for bringing back the standing 8 count. No fighter trains to "take a knee". Sometimes a fighter gets buzzed and is covering up...... no problem. Sometimes it is better to NOT throw punches, protect yourself, and weather the storm. Referees demanding you "punch back".... opening yourself up to getting hit..... should be banned. Keep your mouth shut and only give legitimate commands. Call a standing 8 count (which counts as a knockdown and a loss of a point), evaluate the fighter, and make your determination if they can continue or not. Very simple.Last edited by jageorge72; 03-03-2024, 03:39 AM.Leave a comment:

Good fight. Respect to both fighters. Wanna force the ref's hand to stop a fight? Just turn your back and see if he cares about how many seconds is left in the round. He could have at least done the oldest trick in the book. Spit the gum shield out. Anything to allow you to get to the finish line.Last edited by slimPickings; 03-03-2024, 03:33 AM.Leave a comment:

First of all, I'm not a conspiracy believer and don't think anything shady was actually done. However that being said the way it ended was a rather...interesting enough given the circumstance that I would understand why some people would think the stoppage is rather fishy. In reality I think the ref was put in a split second decision spot and made the wrong call in hindsight, but without any ill intent.
That being said I wonder who Ford will fight next, or whether if Kholmatov will get a rematch or something.Leave a comment:

i know, with that said it still makes even more sense to hold or take a knee and not just try to move the last 30seconds of the fight
i tought he had it in the bag, im heartbroken for him, but turning the way he did was a huge huge mistake, honestly a clinch or taking a knee was the best decision, easier said than done though thinking clear in a war like that is something that comes with experience, something that neither of them had at that stageLeave a comment:

Standing 8? This isn't amateur boxing. You turn your back, that's no different than throwing in the towel. That stoppage was nuts. Wanna knowwhy hestumbled
The guy was fighting with a tor) LCA and a bum knee
He wasn’t allowed to wear a brace which is beyond me but wtv
He should have been given an 8 count
But that wasn’t the caseLeave a comment:

Agree but also Kholmatov messed up badly, he could have hold, or even take a knee, the fact that he turned his back and stumbled made it easy for the ref to jump inThat stoppage was nuts.
