Rosario was also a pretty big puncher with good defense, by the time he fought Chavez Sr he was (31-2, 27 KOs) with wins over Edwin Viruet, Ramirez, Davis Jr, Bramble and Loreto Garza. Chavez's first fight at 135 aswell by the way.
Ramirez had a close split decision win over Whitaker, beat Rosario in the rematch, and lost a close SD fight with Arguello with a early knockdown.
Mayweather was a two division champion (130-140). You get what I mean, these are solid wins.Last edited by Malvado; 03-01-2024, 04:14 PM.Comment

At this point it just feels like he is feigning ignorance, Camacho (40-1) has beaten Ramirez, Davis Jr, Rosario, Mancini, Pazienza and Haugen.

Personally I view Chavez having faced more consistent and fresher opposition whether its accomplished champions or ranked contenders (of course he took stay busy fights, but he fought more than twice a year):
Chavez holds records for most successful consecutive defenses of world titles (27), most title fights (37), most title-fight victories (31), and he is tied with Joe Louis for most title defenses won by knockout (21).
Chavez good opposition was:
-Mario "Azabache" Martinez (33-1-2)
-Ruben Castillo (60-4-2)
-Roger Mayweather X2 (21-2)(34-5)
-Rocky Lockridge (38-4)
-Juan Laporte (27-6)
-Francisco Tomas Da Cruz (27-1)
-Edwin Rosario (31-2)
-Rodolfo Aguilar (20-0)
-Jose Luis Ramirez (101-6)
-Alberto Cortes (44-0)
-Meldrick Taylor (24-0-1)
-Kyung Duk Ahn (29-1)
-John Duplessis (36-1)
-Angel Hernandez (37-0-2)
-Lonnie Smith (28-3-1)
-Frankie Mitchell (29-1)
-Hector Camacho (40-1)
-Marty Jakubowski (37-0)
-Greg Haugen (32-4)
-Terrence Ali (52-7-2)
-Pernell Whitaker (32-1)
-Andy Holligan (21-0)
-Tony Lopez (45-4-1)
-Frankie Randall X2 (48-2-1)(49-2-1)
-Giovanni Parisi (29-1)
-David Kamau (26-0)
-Scott Walker (21-3-1)
-Oscar De La Hoya X2 (21-0)(28-0)
-Joey Gamache (45-2)
-Miguel Angel Gonzalez (42-1)
-Ken Sigurani (22-1)
-Kostya Tszyu (24-1)
So Canelo's best wins are Charlo?, Kirkland, Lara, Trout (he had beaten a dangerous Cotto that had knocked out Sergio Martinez later on), GGG, Jacobs, Kovalev?, (not sure since he had a rehydration clause), Smith, Saunders, and Plant.
Solid resume, but I think those that stand out are Lara, GGG and Plant accomplishment wise.Last edited by Malvado; 03-01-2024, 05:33 PM.Comment

Well to be fair, you could explain what are Canelo's best wins instead of diminishing Chavez's.
Personally I view Chavez having faced more consistent and fresher opposition whether its accomplished champions or ranked contenders (of course he took stay busy fights, but he fought more than twice a year):
As for Canelo, he had some quality wins. But I don't count Mosley and Cotto being among them despite being ATGs, specially the latter who had a catchweight and a rehydration clause despite being at the end of his career.

Jus for the sake of argument, do you really think cotto, Mosley and floyd were in their prime when he fought them? He was given the opportunity that he refuses to give now, and he's younger. He's protected by the media, his team and the judges, he should have a least two more loses in his record and what us more, he holding the belts hostage. You don't want to take a risk, okay you have already make a ton of money and you should be able to retire and enjoy that wealth, vacate the belts and let other guys make some money, this is the biggest proble I see with the situation. He will be judge by his actions.
ps. Older Fighters are old, they're there mostly to collect a check, nobody is praising Joppy because he beat Duran.Comment

you discounted cotto and mosley for canelo but you just listed a bunch of nobodies for sr.. you listed all the great fighters that canelo beat then you make excuses saying he wasnt at his best when canelo fought him.. your view is flawed from the start already. there is no reason for me to continue on with this nonsense with you.
I listed ranked contenders and champions that Chavez Sr faced, just because they didn't do enough to be remembered doesn't mean they were easy fights for the common fighter. There also champions listed like Ramirez, Randall, Parisi, Lopez, Gamache, Smith, Lockridge, Laporte, Mayweather, Rosario, Taylor, Camacho, and Haugen.
Not all of them are HOF material, but they are consistent champions that are physically at their prime. There are HOFs like Ramirez, Taylor, Haugen and Mayweather, ATGs in Rosario and Camacho. Chavez also fought De La Hoya and Kostya at the end of his career with a controversial draw with Pernell Whittaker in favor of the American.
These were their records at the time of Cotto and Mosley:
Miguel Cotto (had a record of 40-4):

Shane Mosley (had a record of 46-7-1)
