  • Comments Thread For: Kambosos: Lomachenko Fight Gives Me My Redemption; Our Careers Are Both On The Line Here

George Kambosos Jr. hasn't produced a convincing victory in any of his last three fights. Kambosos barely beat British southpaw Maxi Hughes in his most recent outing, which resulted in a 12-round, majority-decision victory last July 22 at Firelake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma. That narrow win came in his first fight after suffering a second consecutive decisive defeat to Devin Haney in a 12-round, 135-pound championship clash in October 2022 at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Only judges as corrupted as those of Pacquiao-Horn - or Kambosos-Hughes, for that matter - will be giving you redemption.

I blame Lopez for this. Which means I have to blame Loma for Lopez.

Damn Loma and him not going pro until his late frickin 20's. Injuries have cost him a legendary career.

Lomachenko lost everytime he had stepped up to elite fighters.

You have to remember they are bigger than him. Usually when both are elite the bigger man wins. They were very close fights. Haney could have been a draw or a victory in many peoples view. He did mess up taking the 12 round off on both fights.

He beat Gary Russell Jr, Rocky Martinez, Nicholas Walters, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Jorge Linares, Jose Pedraza, Anthony Crolla, and Richard Commey. He lost close decisions to Orlando Salido, Teofimo Lopez, and Devin Haney in a fight many thought he won (I scored it even).

What else do you want from an older, smaller fighter?

I for one would like him to start faster and stop taking his foot off the gas. All his losses, he was pretty much in control by the end, and if he'd banked one or two more rounds early, or stepped up another gear, he would likely have won, maybe by stoppage. He's always been his own worst enemy. He was beating the crap out of Salido by the end of that fight, despite taking over 50 low blows. He basically gave up the first 7 rounds to Lopez. And he had Haney in all kinds of trouble in 11 and then took his foot off the gas and LET Haney win 12 in his best shot at undisputed.

Kambosos should have caught an L against Maxi Hughes. Unless Loma becomes very shopworn or the judges are in the bag, Kambosos doesn't win this.

And he won the second half of every fight he lost on the cards. Slow starts have cost him but every time he’s proved the better boxer despite his smaller size. That’s why no one is jumping for the rematch with him - they know they would have far less chance now he’s figured them out.
