  • Comments Thread For: Ronnie Shields Believes David Morrell Is Ready For Canelo Too: "When Is He Gonna Get His Opportunity?"

On paper, David Morrell would appear to be at the point where he's considered a prospect, a highly touted one but a prospect nonetheless.

Morrell could be the new big thing in boxing if he beats Ben. & Canelo. They need to make these fights in a timely manner.

The second 2 dangerous opponents emerged as options at 168 and the line of British “champions” no longer existed for Canelo, he suddenly decided that junior middleweights were deserving of title fights at 168, he suddenly walked back his claims of not wanting to fight a Mexican as munguia is now a top option for him. If Canelo was a true chaser of greatness like he and his fans claim he is, these next 2 fights would be vs Benavidez and Morrell as the 168 division is weak otherwise. But we all see that he’ll avoid those threats at all costs.

Morrell does nothing for Canelo’s or Benavidez legacy and bank accounts at the moment. Regardless of how “ready” he looks, those are the facts and until he can add to one or preferably both, he won’t ever be ready enough

He has to beat solid opponents so they will be demands for the fight. Otherwise he is just a great looking prospect.

Petition the WBA for your title shot then... Curious if that's happened yet.

Morrell has all the talent in the world and is one of the few Cubans that goes for the kill and isn’t boring.

But while he’s waiting for Canelo surely he can be fighting better opponents than Sena Agbeko?

Why does everyone keep saying that Morrell or any ither Cuban has "only" 10 fights, or 2, or 5.....they have more experence than anyone else. Morrell has more than 300 amatuer fights with gold medals.

Let me get this straight...DMJ hasn't even faced a single former champ yet...but he's ready for someone like Canelo sure....I dont think so Mr Shields.
