It was always about building Wilder's profile to make him 50/50 vs AJ. Couldn't have AJ stop the old man on BP medications.

I can hear them now. Ruiz beat AJ. AJ made the mistake of rushing in on a guy he thought was hurt and got caught with a template shot. Last I checked, Ortiz doesn't have Ruiz's hand speed which is an issue with any heavyweight who closes the distance on him.
Agree with what you say about AJ-Ruiz

AJ made a ****** tactical mistake and got caught with a temple shot which effectively ended the fight.

I do think that he learned the lesson a bit wrong though, it really shook his confidence more than I think it needed to, the mistake he made was really obvious and easily corrected but it turned him very gunshy for years although he seems to have developed a bit more of a **** it attitude now which is good.

Ortiz had 2 fights under match room and in one of the stunk the place out. Nobody was calling for that fight. I am of the opinion though that he was a dangerous fighter especially back then but Ortiz never won anything as an amateur and didn’t win anything as a professional. He lost basically every major fight he was involved in. He is very chinny and I make that observation not based on Wilder because any fighter would go to sleep if wilder cracks you. I believe boxingscene and Ortiz himself gave the moniker boogeyman. He is just a skilful ponderous old man that could never really take a punch from any heavy hitting heavyweight.

so let’s get this right if you are with a different company and a fighter such as AJ offers you a contract which you decline and fight another fighter in your stables for a third of the amount and only 1 belt as opposed to 3 that is not considered ducking in your eyes?

But in all seriousness where do you rank Ortiz in this generation of heavyweights.
It’s insane wilder built his rep off this guy lol

If only it were that simple, as it totally depends on the contract offered and the one signed with your promoter.

I can only imagine the A-side b.s promoters try on and manage to put over other opponents.

Sounds like Ortiz was badly mismanaged and probably lost a few bouts on purpose.

            - - All modern Cubans are badly managed and trained.

That said, Ortiz in the first fight had Deyonce swooning in faerieland only to have the ref interfere so he could recover, a rigged fight.
