8 million pesos, maybe.
Do you bellieve Stevenson was offered $8 million from Haney?

That is something I've long noticed these days. Everyone pulls almost anything out of their asses.
Again, making comparisons and using common sense is the key to combat lies and exaggerations.
Wilder, for example, made $2 mil, his highest purse so far at that time, in the first Luis Ortiz fight.
And that was a fairly well-received fight by fans, to be fair. But not exactly huge as the Porter vs Thurman.
So how can anyone believe $8 million? Where will the money come from?

You gotta be an idiot to believe Haney made a serious offer to Stevenson.
Fact that it's only 25% is itself evidence of it. This is not just some Pitbull he's making offer to.
The moment the last round in the Loma fight ended. Hanky said to himself, "That's it. I'm not staying in this damn, grueling division anymore."
But he can't just drop those shiny belts without making any use of them even if only temporarily. He's a wealthy man, made a name
and very confident in making even more in the upper division. Look at him. He's the A-side in the Prograis fight!
But Shakur kept calling him out which irritated Haney. And to shut him out completely he said 25 split.
Meaning, even if Shakur called his bluff Haney won't be all excited knowing it will be another ordeal of weight draining all over again.
Yeah, that's Shakur's mistake. He let him get away with it. But it's ****** to assume Hanky was making a serious offer.Last edited by rickJen; 10-23-2023, 11:44 AM.Comment

Technically if 8 million is 25%, 75% would be 24 million. 32 is the full 100%. 8/32 = 1/4 = 25%, and 24/32 = 3/4 = 75%>
But your point still stands. I don't believe for a second that there's a 32 million dollar purse for Haney and Stevenson, plus site fees, cuts for all the sanctioning bodies, promoter fees, cost of promotion, etc. Not even the Saudis would pay that much for guys who are proven NOT to be draws. There's no way that fight doesn't lose money at that price point.Comment

Those two guys facing each other at this moment will not generate that type of income. Neither is a household name or have this incredible KO streak.Comment

I didn't continue with the remaining part of the video, but it's all there, the $8 mil offer claimed by Martin.
And the interviewer didn't even make a ruckus about it, just assumed it's legit, no questions asked.
Moral lesson of the story is, if you see something preposterous like this, call them out or do something.

Thanks for the correction!

I misrepresented the unknown x to be the other % split in my equation: 25/100 = 8,000,000 / x ; x = 8,000,000 (100) / 25 = 32,000,000 , which is the total purse.
