How good/dangerous is Ngannou in a boxing match?

Stop trying to justify this total shyte mismatch. Ngannou can’t box, is not a boxer and has absolutely zero chance of winning. It’s a clown show designed to extract as much money as possible from the mugs who watch this kind of garbage.Comment

This is just such a mismatch. I personally think Wilder v Ngannou would have been a better sell, since Wilder can't be said to be very skilled, and then they could have had the "let's see who has the most KO power" hype. I like Ngannou, and appreciate how much he's been able to defy expectations, but I'm having a hard time thinking he has a chance based on what we've seen from him in the past. If I were going to think an MMA guy were going to be reasonably successful in boxing, personally I'd feel more comfortable thinking that about Anatoly Makykhin.
I think it's in Fury's financial interests to try to make it look good though. If he just clobbers Francis in one and demonstrates what a mismatch it is, it's harder to sell a rematch in the cage, or get more crossover fights. He probably also would like to have more events vs Jon Jones, etc, assuming he gets by Usyk.Comment

"has absolutely zero chance of winning"
Would guys like Takam and Franklin have more chance of beating Fury than Ngannou? Explain why given established facts about their stoppage/knockdown records. Also explain what UFC reject Greg Hardy has as a boxer that Ngannou doesn't.
"Shyte mismatches" are the norm and this has always been so. Look up bookmakers odds, which are more often than not accurate. Contenders are often "10/1", "20/1" or more.
For instance, Franklin (who many thought beat Whyte) was a 44/5 underdog (10.2% implied chance of winning) against Joshua, despite Joshua having previously been demolished by 25/1 underdog Ruiz (arguably the most humiliating defeat in combat sports history) and been schooled twice by cruiserweight Usyk in his two previous fights.Last edited by NEETzschean; 10-21-2023, 10:25 PM.Comment

"but Francis has yet to KO the caliber of boxer Takam has KO'd"
Ofc, he's 0-0 as a boxer. We're speculating based on other things we know. Such as the fact that UFC reject Greg Hardy stopped experienced 14-1 pro boxer Neely in 66 seconds, whereas none of the other 5 boxers he faced in the TCL 1 rounders did, including Usyk title challenger and former top 10 ranked HW Hunter.
Which of these three would you take to KO Joshua if your life depended on it?
Jermaine Franklin (part time factory worker, didn’t stop Pavel Sour over the full 10 rounds, who was smoked in 3 by Hughie, in 2 by Gorman and in 1 by Kabayel)
Carlos Takam (didn’t drop or stop any of his 10 best opponents, including Yoka and Forrest and didn’t drop or stop MMA journeyman Maldonado over the 10 round distance under boxing rules)
Francis Ngannou (GOAT UFC HW KO artist)Comment

"u are why these fights sell so well"
u are why these fights sell so well, ngannou is almost certainly hopeless in a boxing ring, he may have a punchers chance until he gasses, thats it, u are lifting him up too much and putting down experienced pros too much i would say, boxing takes YEARS to get good at, its much more than striking and hail marys, much more
u are not taking into account simple things like punching through a guard in boxing, mma mitts do not act as a guard, its much much easier to strike through mitts, once ngannou takes a few of furys shots his stamina goes south and hes basically done most likely
I'm not buying the fight, so no.
"he may have a punchers chance until he gasses, thats it,"
However small Ngannou's punchers chance may be, it's still probably a greater chance than guys like Franklin and Takam would have!
"putting down experienced pros too much"
UFC reject Greg Hardy dominated three experienced pro boxers (Rahman Jr., Corbin, Neely) within his first year boxing.Comment

I don't disagree with you. But you underestimate the degree to which gross mismatches are a part of boxing and always have been! Fury-Franklin would be a bigger mismatch, despite the fact that many thought Franklin beat Whyte and is a top 30 boxer.
im afraid u are falling for the hype of this fight & its always the same with these types of things, it will almost certainly end in a easy win for fury and may even be borderline farce but the next one could be different........ could be... lol
fury may even carry this guy rounds to make it looks semi competitive, fury can box very well, this guy cant box at all probably or if he can its very very basic stuff with & more than likely hes gassed after a few rounds and a sitting duck in thereComment

We can only know for sure on the 28th.
Ngannou is a big guy that can punch and you cannot take that from him. We must also not forget that MMA does include some boxing so punching and defending punches is nothing new to him. He has sparred boxers before even when training for MMA. It might be his first official boxing match but not his first time stepping into a boxing ring nor his first experience in boxing.
Surely, I do not see Ngannou outscoring any decent HW but he can surely knock them out if their defense is not impeccable. He has to go all out and try to hurt Fury in the first few rounds...body, liver, arms, temple, whatever he can find. After a few rounds, if he is not done enough hitting, he will be getting hit and succumb to taking repeated blows.Comment

We don't know how hard Ngannou hits by boxing standards.
I agree that they would have beaten Ngannou in a boxing match based on superior skill, experience and stamina but I don't think they are more dangerous to higher level boxers than Ngannou.
Takam for instance hasn't dropped or stopped any of his 10 best opponents, including guys like Tony Yoka and Jerry Forrest. So how can he beat an A-side champions/titlists like Klitschko, Joshua, Wilder etc. etc.? Barring a freak injury, he can't. Whereas Ngannou would have a small punchers chance against pretty much anyone if he went for it, at least in the first two or three rounds.
McGregor was supposed to have one punch power in MMA and was flattening guys. But Floyd and Paulie said his power was just OK. You could say he never hit them flush, but as a boxer, even in sparring you can get a great judgement of fighters power just taking shots on the arms, because of years of experience. McGregor did catch Floyd with a good uppercut and Floyd didn't even blink.
They're hyping up Ngannou saying he has this world record for hardest punch , but how many boxers past and present have taken the test on the same machine? Its nonsense, a gimmick.
I've no doubt he's a strong and heavy handed enough guy and you wouldnt wanna be taking shots off him or even any big man, but I wouldn't be so sure he's a devastating puncher by boxing standards.
but I understand your point. If he is some monster puncher even in boxing, then yeah you could say his punchers chance gives him more of a chance than Takam or soneome who was no chance to outbox or knock out Fury.
