How good/dangerous is Ngannou in a boxing match?

u cant compare a guy who has never had a pro boxing fight to decent or good pro boxers, whatever level he does manage to reach, its going to be LOW on the boxing scale or maybe even VERY LOW, thats after several or many fights too i would say

no its because he cant box lol & its embarrassing more likely than not, boxing is a lot more than a swing and a miss, a lot more, even mcnuggat has sparing footage of him 'dropping' paulie, remember that, paulie went straight to floyd and said, this guy is hopeless, this is an easy sparing match for u & mac did better than expected actually, he made a bit of a fight of it for some rounds so i was a bit impressed but he was no danger whatsoever to floyd, it was a total mismatch as expected in the endComment

"decent or good pro boxers"
UFC journeyman Hardy was able to dominate three experienced boxers (Rahman Jr. Corbin, Neely) on less than 12 months of pure boxing experience. Were they decent? Compared to most big boxers in the gym they are. Compared to most active heavyweight boxers they are.
Considering Takam couldn't drop or stop any of his 10 best opponents (including Yoka and Forrest), is he decent? What level of threat does he pose to high level A-side boxers who he can neither outbox or hurt, relative to Ngannou who is much bigger, a much bigger puncher, wild and probably more athletic?Comment

You can't compare relative midgets like Connor and Floyd to heavyweights, whose one-punch power is vastly greater. Do you honestly believe that Ngannou's uppercut wouldn't KO Dillian Whyte? Do you honestly believe that Ngannou would have less than 10% chance of landing it on Whyte?

I agree Ngannou isn't that dangerous to high level heavyweight boxers in a boxing ring. But...
Is Ngannou less dangerous to higher level boxers than Takam, who couldn't drop or stop any of his 10 best opponents, including Yoka and Forrest?
If UFC reject journeyman Greg Hardy was able to dominate three experienced boxers inside 12 months of becoming a boxer and currently be ranked as the 94th/1416 heavyweight boxer in the world, what does he have striking-wise that UFC champ Ngannou doesn't have to a much greater degree?
Hardy had 90 pounds on 2 of his opponents.
Some boxers have started late and still been successful so you could think of any UFC fighter who is crossing over as any other athletic person trying to start boxing late, every now and then there will be a natural and some have natural punching power. WIlder started boxing late and had amazing power which took him a long way while his skills were developing. Those guys are ultra rare though.
We also see a lot of MMA types who had power in MMA who have zero power in boxing, that is in fact extremely common.
Right now I would have to assume Ngannou is featherfisted with some awkwardness (such as taking different stances, squaring up more ect) that could make things annoying for top boxers but especially at heavyweight they should be able to get enough openings on him to knock him out.

Seeing that Jerry forrest went the distance with many experienced pros, I would favor him, but I also think its in his best interest to request a longer fight like 6 or 8 rounds.
It could be a sloppy fight, the mma guys dont fight the same as boxers remember connor vs floyd, that was sloppy, connor is not always lined up like a boxer in their positioning, he is all over the place and there is a lot of holding when they get in close. MMA fighters arent that different than youtubers, KSI vs Tommy was a sloppy mess by all acounts as well with tons of holding so it can be hard to look good in those fights.
In 4 rounds I would favor Jerry Forrest but I wouldnt put any money on it, it will probably be a sloppy fight with lots of holding, hard to score the rounds and Ngannou is the bigger name very likely could get the win without doing much.
In 8 rounds theres more time for Ngannou to tire out and Forrest to catch him.
You put in a better fighter with say Pulev who has power, I am way more confident in him he will find an opening and put Ngannou to sleep.
So recapping, I would pick Forrest but definitely not confident enough to put money on it and even less confident for a 4 rounder.Last edited by elfag; 10-20-2023, 10:04 AM.Comment

From the brief clips shared on social media, the dude looks like an actor trying hard to get a role in a boxing movie, lol. Unless they're holding back something, there is no way one of the heavyweight kings in his prime is going to lose. These gloves are heavier than MMA gloves. Ngannou is not used to throwing bombs with them on, but Fury is. The power might be negligible because of this and it might turn out Fury has more power than Ngannou.Comment
