He doesn't give all credit to BoMac....He says repeatedly that he has a TEAM of coaches and each one of them bring something in camp that he benefits from. BoMac & Bernie are just the more vocal coaches. But Esau, Red Spikes, Chet, and others are just as important to Crawford's development. Sit your ass down and stick with the facts. I still would like to see Crawford becoming a promoter. We'll see if he'll invest huge amounts of money on fighters with potential just like what Arum did with him.

What I want to know, and most likely many people are curious about, is how much profit do these networks make and why do they keep closing shop? Boxing is not charity. People behind the business need to make money too. Established ones like TR, GBP, etc. employ people; lawyers, match makers, secretaries, etc., not to mention rent, overheads, etc.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Promoters can't be the only ones at the negotiation table, especially since they have little skin in the game. Time and time again we see boxers hosed by greedy promoters.

Little skin in the game? Who do you think funds the development of todays fighters? Who do you think paid for the cost of Floyds first 15 or 20 fights? Hint: It wasnt a manager or a network. It was a promoter. And did you know that the ratio of profitable fighters to non-profitable fighters is probably 30 to 1, or maybe even higher. So for every fighter that a promoter makes a profit off of, there are 30 more who COST money.

But sure, you can eliminate promoters. And then every fighter can follow the Kimbo Slice method and post backyard fights on youtube.....

Crawduck was the reason the Spence fight didn't happen 5 years ago, Crawduck is the reason he stayed with Top Rank and the reason no significant fights ever happened. Divas like him, protecting that "0" are the reason Showtime boxing is closing up shop. And now he thinks he can tell Oscar how to run the business?

Add to that, Divas like Crawduck are the reason Showtime and HBO tanked, look at the UFC card this weekend, you think a diva like Crawduck would step in on 2 weeks notice and fight the champ at a higher weight class like Volkanovski is doing? Same thing with Usman jumping in at a weeks notice and fighting the champ in what could've easily been a main event fight. I love boxing, but damn, UFC is kicking their asses with the cards and fighters attitudes.

Was Prescott a world champ at the time? Was Crawduck a champ at the time? Plenty of guys have taken fights on short notice, but noone is doing what Volkanovski is doing.

He may never had a catchweight fight and all the other things you said, but he did fight Spence 5 years too late when Spence was a slurring, shot, weight drained, walking zombie with a detached retina.

Boxing needs a premier league, like the NFL, the NBA, or yes, the UFC. There must be a place that's structured, regulated, and recognized as *the place for professional championship boxing. No more wild wild west with the alphabet organizations, and "promotors," grifting off top talent. But at the same time, no more $30 million plus paydays for a small handful of fighters at the top while the opponents they build their names off of make $500 in club fights, and have to retire broke, broken, and without health insurance. There needs to be a sharing of the revenue. Clearly the biggest, highest profile fights will make the most money. But those fights simply couldn't happen if there weren't a whole series of lesser fights in which the fighters made their names to be able to command those high profile fights. That revenue *must be shared with lesser names, and frankly, even with the "bums" who while they'll never be superstars, or even stars, do contribute by being the "3rd string" and "practice squad" players. Those at the top can still get rich. But those at the bottom deserve to at least make a living.

Yes, there will still be professional fights that take place outside of "the league." Not everyone who plays basketball plays in the NBA. These fights will still count on one's record, and appear on BoxRec. But "the league" will be the place everyone looks to for respect and legitimacy. It will be the place everyone wants to be, and everyone wants to watch.

It will mean a radical restructuring and reorganizing. Those currently at the top in the current system will likely resist it, especially the non-fighters. But if they would think about things sensibly, they'll see that it's really the only way to go. Without it, boxing will become even more of a niche sport than it already is, and eventually it will simply fade from public view, and even the current once or twice a year massive events won't have an audience.
