HBO already left, Im surprised showtime lasted as long as it did.

20 years ago, it was a big draw to have boxing on your channel, it drew in subscribers. They had both live fights and then PPV fights were shown "free" the next weekend. I used to watch it every week.

Nobody follows boxing anymore, its not drawing in subscribers. people only care about shows like game of thrones now. So its not worth the cost of it to them. Plus i imagine all the old heads, the executives that we dont see behind the scene, most of them from the boxing era probably retired and the new guys see the low numbers and low interest in boxing.

Also back in the day it was really only HBO and showtime for all big fighters, so there is like 50% chance you can sign the next big fighter. ESPN for the lower fights. Now things are spread all over the place, so showtime got to spend all this money only to get B class fighters at best and mostly C class fighters. They used to have mike tyson and even past his prime he would always sell PPV.

I think the money is more concentrated, its only among a few top boxers and then among the youtube idiots. I dont think its as spread out as it used to be. Where are all your welterweights doing near 1 million PPV?
