Nothing that dramatic happened either way. Floyd made a lot of money for himself and it was PPV generated. There hasn't been a mass audience for boxing for a long time and it's likely not coming back.

you said floyd brought in a lot of young hip hop black fans .. which is totally the opposite... young black hip hop fans were actually mad at floyd for stalling the fight!!

Mayweather played a good villain with the rivalry but it was Pacquiao who brought boxing back to the mainstream post DLH-Trinidad-Tyson Era.

Pacquiao rose to fame as Mayweather's rival, he spent his whole welterweight career in Floyd's shadow. Not the other way around. Floyd never needed Pac, but Pac needed Floyd.

Don't get me wrong, boxing does need guys like Pac, but Pac only rose to prominence because of Floyd.

I said young fans and hip hop fans. Two distinct groups. I also posted so much more.

No they weren’t. You have no idea what you’re talking about. One obscure rapper saying that doesn’t verify what you posted.

Go away. You’re ******ity and childishness are ruining good threads.

                Here is what I wrote-

Floyd resonated with the hip hop crowd- younger and black fans.

Since English isn’t your primary language you clearly read it wrong.

                I also wrote much more.

Mayweather couldn't put butts in the seat during his pretty boy floyd days, it was only after he got the DLH fight and started his money persona that he was able to tap into the mainstream.

Pacquiao was already making noise from the start when he went on a tear and started beating all the great Mexican fighters.

The only ones that actually "saved" boxing when it was starting to decline were the exciting American HW champs like a Jack Dempsey, Ali, or 80s Tyson. Like it or not, an exciting American HW champion usually brings a lot of attention to the sport and revitalizes the sport, especially when he is at his peak and seems invincible. No little fighter will have that kind of impact on boxing or become cultural icons and be part of popular American culture.

Like it or not, the HW division has always been the lifeline of this sport.
