If they fight, Morell wins. I would advise Benavides to skip for now. Seems like Canelo is willing to entertain the fight after Bivol. I would fight morrell after.Comment

Definitely a good idea for Benavidez to skip Morrell if Canelo is in sight. Why risk the loss before a huge money fight? Alas….Comment

Fight could only take place if the ginger manages to convince bivol to run it back at 175 cause if Bivol rejects canelo you can be sure Benavidez will be next in line for september.Comment

Wasn't Morrell's most recent opponent a last minute substitute? I never even heard of him. Some people say undefeated, two-time WBC champ and mandatory challenger David Benavidez, doesn't deserve a fight with current WBC champ Canelo Alvarez. And yet with nine pro fights to his name, David Morrell somehow deserves a fight with Benavidez? Knee grow, please!Comment

Morrell and Benavidez suffer from exactly the same issue - both are obviously talented and avoided as a consequence. Plant only fought Benavidez as Canelo had made it clear they should fight each other as his calendar was full. Benavidez has mentioned Morrell as a prospective opponent a number of times and clearly has no issue risking his 0 and neither does Morrell. Personally I think both fighters should be commended for taking the fight now rather than waiting for a money ticket against Canelo. Benavidez has called for Canelo to be stripped numerous times due to non activity - he wants the belts first regardless of who’s holding them and again has made this clear on a number of occasions. No point waiting on Canelo as assuming he beats Ryder, Bivol is next anyway. If he gets beat by Bivol he’ll retire. If he wins he’ll fight Beterbiev for all the marbles and become the first 2 weight undisputed champion then he’ll retire. Either way can’t see him fighting at 168 again after the Ryder fight.
Personally I think from Morrell’s perspective he should have a couple of fights against tougher opposition before facing Benavidez. He needs to experience having to dig deep to get a win as I suspect that’s what he’ll need against Benavidez as he will tire and Benavidez will bring that heat. Morrell has breezed through everyone so far too easily and that won’t happen against Benavidez.Comment
